I dont think that. Regardless of his aerial ability he's a must sign, IMO. 13 goals so far and missed 5 games through injury/ineligibility (which has him at just under a goal every two games) and he'd have added a lot more to that if Mirallas/Deulofeu/Barkley had played him in more often in great position.
I don't agree dave. Not seen sufficient evidence he can play back to goal. Other aspects of his game are more promising and Drogba eventually, from a similar position of physical/technical ability, moulded himself into a world-class back-to-goaler as well as finisher (and not bad in the air) but that took him until he was what, 26-28? It could be a way off for Lukaku. Can we carry him for that long?

True dat.

Alas, we are not in a position to pay £20 million+ for potential.

(in truth, very few clubs are)

For that kind of dough we need the finished article.

I would love to be able to keep Lukaku if he can be bought for a reasonable price but I personally wouldn't be breaking the bank for him, nor blowing a huge percentage of the transfer budget to secure his services.

A team in our position isn't going to attract the finished article.

Carry him? He's scored 30 goals in the PL in the past two seasons - 4th top scorer in the division in that time period.

As I say, how many times have we seen this feller arms outstretched in front of him waiting for a tap in from a pass that never comes? I swear to God he must get in those positions at least three times per game. He practically guarantees you 15 goals per season. You put Sturridge in this team and he'd struggle to get to that figure. I cant see him costing £20M either. Chelsea got him for £10m with loads of clauses that went up to £17M if he hit the trophy trail with them. We'd probably get him for close or below what Chelsea agreed to.

Maybe his game needs to improve in certain respects, but when we're on the break his movement is exceptional and he finds the best possible place to be in if/when the ball arrives. I'd hate to see us start next season without him, that's for sure.

Spot on dave

what difference does the fella's age make,20 or 30 he plays to a counter attacking style and we play an offensive style.I think chelsea bought him thinking they had the new drogba but soon found out his is not that. What he does well is break into space with pace power and skill and finishes for fun.

Think McGeadys been poor myself, I reserve judgement (even though I've seen him for years) until chrimbo, if Martinez can coax that fluctuant talent out of him consistently with product, he is some coach!

We desperately need another Duncan!
Someone who wins every header and adds some fire into the team. Wish Duncan had some ability where he stayed young for life haha
