dave k i agree i don't think lukaku is going to be worth the money chelsea will ask for him.Gone of the boil second half of the season, looks nothing like a cl player

wouldnt say off the boil but as the seasons gone on his head has dropped. maybe fitness too many games??? id rather us get a couple of 12k forwards than on lukaku. trouble is on his day like arsenal he's an unplayable monster

mcgeady though one good preseaon and he'll be a clever litte signing. hes lost a bit of weight as looks a lot healther

I think people are getting carried away saying posters are scapegoating and to me theres not really a huge amount of people knocking his performance against Palace.

It is totally understandable, at this point, to not be too big on McGeady especially if an Irish toffee as he has been a consistently inconsistent player who does the first part of an attack very well....racing towards the danger area/beating one or two men....but has always fallen down in with his final ball and with his shooting. I can understand some fans not looking forward to a few.seasons of him flattering to deceive.

However I personally think he started to improve under Trap towards the end in a style that was in no way suited to him. He got better defensively and took more responsibilty in building up play. He already looks like becoming a key play under ONeill in this way. For me he is finally showing signs of maturity as a player and with a coach like ours we could be the team to see the best of an obviously talented player who at worst sees the play a lot better than Mirallas/Deulo/Lukaku in our attack.

Early days for a cheap signing. Hopeful on what can happen, but those who havent seen him as much should be wary that in a years time you might be repeating a lot of what has been posted here. That he flatters to deceive, and the boss bits of skill are not enough to make up for the skied shots and poor crosses.

For now though Ill just believe Bobby will polish this diamond and he will be MOTM in the Fa Cup win next season.

I really think we should be getting more out of Lukaku in the air. I wonder if his knock out at West Ham is in the back of his mind now when challenging? He can meet crosses - it's in his locker - as he proved at West Ham and against Liverpool. I suspect Martinez will be looking to recruit a forward who has that string to his bow.
Lukaku rarely wins headers - especially when the ball is played forwards to him.

I know. But he CAN win headers. Which is my point. He showed that when he first came to us, and he scored four headers from his 17 he notched up for WBA the season before.

I think the knock at West Ham affected him, tbh.

I dont think that. Regardless of his aerial ability he's a must sign, IMO. 13 goals so far and missed 5 games through injury/ineligibility (which has him at just under a goal every two games) and he'd have added a lot more to that if Mirallas/Deulofeu/Barkley had played him in more often in great position.

I think he was good the other night. For 40 minutes. After that he went out the game, but he's looking quicker and sharper every week. Just a shame he can't cross it.

Never really thought of that Dave but you could be spot on actually, remember how poor cech was on crosses after coming back from his injury, coukd all be in his mind atm

Cant afford to pay any more then 20 million for him. Still pissed of that Chelsea gave a striker away to Liverpool while we will have to pay over the odds for him. I've asked this question before and never got a decent answer, is Lukaku contract running down at Chelsea?

Contract runs till summer 2016 mate, so 2 and a bit years left

Fairly sure Lukaku has 2 years left on his contract as of this summer.

potential to be what.Problem is we have 5/6 forward players that all want to run at the goal with the ball, nobody fancies playing with their back to goal, which is fine if you have the movement of louis suarez but aint no good if you stand there like a land post like lakaku does

Your blind if you can't see the potential in Lukaku mate, is he the finished article obviously not, but that's exactly why he's not starting at chelsea, show me a better 20yo striker proven in this league?

The answer
Fair point. He was well worth taking.
Just my thinking that a player of Mcgeady's type is normally best suited by having a big target man to aim for but you are right, he can be of benefit the side even without.

I agree with that point.

Players like McGeady are most effective when a good target man is there to make the most of their work.
