The Taliban and Isis etc know he’s not coming back no matter what they do now. He can’t bluff these people or pull the wool over their eyes like he does at home. His treatment of NATO allies also means he will have little political support for any face saving operations…

He could start by going after the money people instead - al-Qaeda, the original IS and now this shower were and are all lavishly funded by people who are not in Afghanistan or any other war zone.

Instead they are in air-conditioned and very nice houses being waited on by servants, their every need taken care of. We should introduce those people to the consequences of their actions.

I’m not playing politics, merely quoting what civil servants have stated. However if it turns out that this has been a cock up then the relevant foreign office civil service person who was responsible for destroying this paper should be sacked…I assume you will agree…..

One was about a decision and a date that was down to the President. One was about just doing their job at the embassy in Afghanistan…but by all means blame a politician if you wish…..

The US did exactly the same with the fall of Saigon. The Embassy, which stored files on all informants, shredded them vertically rather than dual slicing them.

Anyway, they were going to incinerate them but unfortunately the down draft from the whirlie-birds coming in to pick up staff tore the plastic bags to shreds.

All the documents were strewn over the embassy floor, which the North rather painstakingly and thoroughly stuck back together - and they used it all.

In that type of situation, you pile it up and burn it with petrol and do the best job you can.

Conventional forces are leaving Afghanistan, but there's no way this is a 'full' withdrawal.

Maybe Biden won't push it, but we've already seen US forces act in spite of a nation's sovereign right - Iraq and Pakistan come to mind.
