I hope Biden appreciates the price others have paid in supporting the USA, though I would doubt he’s even aware…

To be fair Biden doesn't have much choice about anything.
Trump released 5,000 Taliban leaders and fighters and signed a treaty with them promising not to interfere with the internal workings of the Afghanistan once the US has left, as long as the Taliban were nice and didn't kill too many of their own people. Then he started the withdrawal.

Biden would have had to redeploy thousands of troops to retain any sort of order, and even then there was the treaty to abide by as he was already past the point of no return when he came to power, due to the prisoner releases.

Indeed, and TBH it’s getting really annoying to see Stewart, Blair and the rest of the occupation crowd continually going on about how no US or UK service personnel have died in the past eighteen months, as if that means continuing the occupation is safe.

It wasn’t even when the Taliban weren’t in control of most of the country (the lack of deaths was probably down to the West beginning it’s withdrawal and ongoing negotiations meaning the Taliban weren’t attacking) but it absolutely wouldn’t be now if things went wrong.

Of course he is only the President of the worlds greatest superpower…

He is playing to a populist electorate. I would guess, military folk aside, those that know, 99% of Mericans havnt got a clue what will/might happen. But Bring the Boys Back.

So the worlds biggest economies and indeed the worlds biggest military will debate whether a short extension to leaving Kabul should take place, before asking the Taliban if that is ok. The Taliban has said there will be repercussions. Someone really should grow a pair here and explain what the repercussions will be for the Taliban and it’s now visible leaders and troops were this not to pass…

I think he also may be willing to take the political heat on this so that the 2024 democratic candidate isn't tarnished with the act (at least not to the extent he would be if he ran again).

It won’t matter. They will be sending the troops back there in a few years after another atrocity…..

He‘s an idiot…they should fly him out to Kabul, with Biden…..

Its what happens when populist politicians tell folk stuff they want to hear, without being brave/intelligent enough to be able to present or acknowledge the possible outcome(s).

Y'know.
