Airbridge re-opened. The evac resumes

Makes zero sense for the Taliban to attack anyone such as diplomats, soldiers etc as they know it will end up in more fighting, more military and they will get pushed back. They are so close to full control that it makes more sense to allow all evacuations to get us and the Americans out asap

I agree, but it’s a very volatile situation. Terry would deffo fancy a final pop at NATO before they finally pull out.

If this goes off without a major firefight I’d be both delighted and surprised.

Surely it's perfectly reasonable to say that the deal signed by Trump was ridiculous - though did 'achieve' getting the troops out of Afghanistan.

Surely it's also perfectly reasonable to say that the Biden administration has made an almighty mess of executing and carrying out that deal - but again, it did, in theory, achieve the goal of withdrawing troops. However, it's gone full Saigon.

Last plane out of Saigon vibes

Am I alone in thinking that forces will be back in Afghanistan within a couple of years...?

I mean I don't know how anyone can see what's going on and not feel that they should help?

I’m no expert but I believe every force in recent history who has tried to help has failed miserably… his long do we keep troops there to establish peace ?? 20 years hasn’t worked … would 40 … 50… 100 years ??

Well yes, that's the million dollar question.
But the alternative??

This thread explains a lot about the Afghan army thats getting criticised.

Late payment for long periods, no resupply of food, ammunition etc.

The Taliban are very well funded and will have offered them money and freedom to step aside so you can see why they would agree. $88b though, imagine what good that could have done in the world
