2025/26 Adam Aznou

Posted that rather than the actual link from the Echo as it gives the quote more succinctly.

I'm off to get the popcorn

“He probably wouldn’t get opportunities at left-back even though we only have 1 other left-back in the whole squad who is crap and prone to a little injury”

Yeh it’s not like we haven’t been caught short due to injuries so far this season, Davey.

Whether we agree or not, if Mykolenko were to get injured Garner or Branthwaite would move to left back before Aznou got a game there.

It isn't a cliché about the PL being more physical than other leagues, Barry has talked about this recently.

Moyes is never, ever playing a lad in defence who he thinks may get bullied.

Should we have known this before we signed him? Probably, but too late now.

What's the solution though? Loads of time in the gym? Loan to the Championship? Dunno

Edit - Reminds me a tiny bit of Per Kroldrup this. 20 years ago he signed a centre back who couldn't head a ball. This time around he's signed a full back who couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag.

I remember Thelwell saying “Dwight McNeil can play left back “ in response to fans hoping to see competition for that position.

We buy a left back and now he’s been loaned out already? I would understand if we had a really decent first choice and adequate cover but we don’t.

Are some of these signings tax write offs? 😂

Still mental to not even be giving him minutes on the wing or as a wingback.

Actually kind of sad given his recent interview being like 'Seamus said to just wait and take my chance when it comes, and then I did against Sunderland!' and nope sorry kid. Back in the bin with you.
Yeah, I will admit to being vaguely supportive of Moyes not playing him as a left back based on what we've heard about his deficiencies there and the little available evidence of televised games of him in the U21s.

What I don't get at all, particularly with the injury to Grealish, is not giving him any minutes on the left of midfield occasionally as a sub or (Monday being a great example) throwing him on as a wing back when we needed a goal and we're playing that formation for a change.

To be fair, Aznou might be saying that a few minutes here and there as a sub on the wing isn't going to cut it and he'd rather go out on loan where he can get regular minutes as a left back - also worth remembering that Aznou might have in mind that he has half a chance of a place in the World Cup squad if he were to impress somewhere between now and then. He's certainly not making the WC squad if he stays here.
