Aaron Lennon ( On Loan January 2015 )

How much would you pay for Lennon in the Summer

  • Up to the rumoured 6 or 7 million - worth every penny

  • No more than 5 million - he's OK, but not worth any more

  • No more than 3 million - he's got no end product ffs

  • Wouldn't take him on a free, he's badly gash

  • Stop asking me questions and stick the grill on

15 League games to go, Spurs still to play so 14 he can be involved in and cup tied for EL. Obviously no FA cup action.

He's fit and well, seems incredibly well rested, seems such an odd move, how much football out of 14 games can he think he'll get game time in? How was he convinced at Spurs?...."you aint playing for us so you may as well try and get games elsewhere" ? I think this'll come down to wages, I strongly suspect (although I have Zero Proof) that Spurs will be paying a percentage of his wages.
Another thing comes to mind, could some of this deal have been done by Levy just to rub Gold's nose in it?

Whens Lennon out of contract at Spurs? And when was his last England cap?

I think the situation with Spurs is much more simple than that. They have screwed themselves over or rather we have screwed them over. Levy stockpiles players and tries to sell on at a profit.

Unfortunately Lennon is surplus to requirements. He needed to get rid of him. He had the opportunity to get 7 million for him this window, to help fund a bid for Mirallas. The clubs who wanted to sign Lennon he didn’t want to go too so he has been left having to give him away for free. Given he only has 18 months on his contract the maximum he will get now is 7 million pounds.

In all likelihood if we don’t fancy him, and with better options available in the summer he will not get that especially as Lennon has just 12 months on his contract. Levy could have rejected our offer, but what would have been more costly would have been to let him sit in the reserves on huge money for 6 months. Come the summer we need to box carefully with this.

It’s clear Levy is trying to get costs down. Anyone with an understanding of supply and demand economics knows he has too many players and this should reduce price. I doubt we will pay the 7 million (I hope not!) and this could end up being a protracted negotiation. But ultimately if Lennon has his heart set on Everton, and we feel he has done a job for us he will only want to come to us.

He will be looking at 3-5 million pounds form us. Of course he could sell him elsewhere but Lennon has already shown he won’t just sign for anyone, and will wait for the club he wants irrespective of Levy. If I were Everton I would hardball it and offer them 3 million. He will blink first. I quite like how Martinez is willing to use the bosman market, it’s something Moyes wasn’t so good at.

Thats a good post and a fair assessment of Levy. Apart from that problem, he is also a victim of his own bloodymindedness in refusing to let Albognerthingy go to the 'ammers. Sometimes you can have too many players for your own good.

Lennon could be useful. But there's no point in playing him unless we're going to break habits of a lifetime and start playing balls behind the FB for him to run on to.

Well yes. Maybe because of Fifa fair play but there seems like there is less money flying about. Maybe it's because the gap between the championship/premiership is too high. Maybe after seeing QPR spend lots of money on the sort of players who were Spurs reserves and get relegated twice teams have thought again. Perhaps it is that clubs scout the European markets more now.

What it has led to though, is there are no longer a host of clubs looking to take the likes of Spurs reserve players off them. Everyone knows that Levy has got too many players, more than he ever wants or needs. He demands top dollar for his players but people are working him out and slowly refusing to pay it as they know the alternative is a lot worse for him.

I have no sympathy, had he have made a credible offer for Mirallas, something like Lennon plus 7-8 million we may have considered it. But it was typical Levy. He tried to pick him up for 3-5 million just to sell him on for 8 million 18 months later. People are growing wise to his tricks.

I think him and Kenwright are quite good friends. But underneath it all there is a shrewd negotiator with Kenwright. If Lennon performs well I hope Kenwright holds his nerve and doesn't pay the 7 million. If Lennon hits it off with us he won't want to go elsewhere. Levy will budge as he won't want to risk leaving Lennon with 6 months on his contract (ie next January) having to pay his wages until January. I suspect 3/4 million may be enough to get him, which could turn out to be a very good deal for us. For a player who's market value should be closer to 10 million, especially when you consider what Liverpool paid for the likes of Lallana.

It was actually their second.

And his pass in setting up our first was even better.
by the time i got back from there i was struggling to remember the score, never mind the finer details. Bottom line for me is McGeady is a trier, but does not have enough quality or technique for the upper half of the Prem. Plus, he rocked up this time last year looking like an extra out of Shameless.
Not over-excited by Lennon, but as with anyone who pulls on the blue shirt, more than prepared to give him a chance, and his pace is certainly something we have lacked
