My brother is somewhat down the same path. He’s deffo leaning towards the. Christian angle as well.

I know there’s a good person in there somewhere, but he suffers severe anxiety and depression (I blame the sheer amount amount of super strength skunk he smoked in his late teens/early 20’s.

As a result he’s some what of a hermit and doesn’t go out much. He’s nearly 30 and has very little real life experience and that’s what gets me so worked up. He’s built up this collection of opinions on people different than he is and how the country should be run, but he’s never interacted with any of these other groups or really participated or in society as a whole.

I’m pretty sure he’s very anti LGBT as well, but has never said anything outright as I think he knows me and him will be done from that point.

It’s so frustrating. I know my brother is in there somewhere behind this angry, lonely man. They seem to be the prime recruits for the modern right.

My bother was never like this until Covid and what started out initially with anti vax stuff, has ultimately led him down this far right path, which seems to have " infected " him.

He`s not a loner or a social inadequate, he`s very bright, has books published and has a decent job, with a load of mates, it`s just that all that time he spent locked away during the lockdowns, with just him and his computer has done something to him and it`s only getting worse.

my gf's parents love youtube docs and they seem to believe them because 'they are on youtube', they watch loads UFO stuff and its nuts how much they think is true. Someone on twitter said once, if you look at the transcript of a lot of these youtube videos they say so little, but they said it in 4 or 5 different ways so it much really get into the heads of people.

only at the weekend i got told that we are something like the 3rd generating of the human race that aliens have planted on earth, and that a whistleblower called this out and the aliens...chopped his legs off. it was so mad i didn't even counter argument it as i didn't know where to start

They could market themselves as having got rid of all the cranks in order to appear competent again whilst dropping all the far right mad chat.Could get a fair amount of people who voted Labour last time out.

They won’t though and both them and Labour will waste time trying to foolishly chase votes from reform voters who will never turn back.

I couldn't give a toss about any political party, they're all essentially the same but with different colour schemes.

So viewing actual fact rather than through red-tinted spectacles:

• Labour's 1997-2010 tenure included the most spectacular foreign policy disaster in British history, Tony Blair forcing Britain in to an unprovoked invasion of Iraq which killed 100,000s of people and collapsed the region, and lead to the Islamist takeover of various parts of the Middle East and North Africa, and the resulting terror attacks and mass displacement of people we've experienced since.
• If you discount Labour's handling of the financial crisis (which happened 9 years in to their government, in which time they could've changed banking regulation, by the way), then do you discount the impact of Covid on the Tories' legacy, because that was also a 'global crisis'?

It'll be nice when people realise that they're all as bad as each other, rather than sticking up for people who don't care about you or your community.

It`s so weird though, as most people can watch all this mad stuff and see it for what is - lies, grift and mad stuff.

But, just like people who get sucked into cults, there seems to be a minority of people, ( like my brother ), who can be leading perfectly normal lives and then all of a sudden and for seemingly no reason, just get sucked into all of the madness.

When he first started going down the anti vax rabbit hole and trying to get me to " see the light ", I asked him how many of the quacks and grifters that he`d been listening to where peer reviewed and how many of them had either been struck off or fallen out with the medical establishment for one reason or another.

Bearing in mind, he`s an academic himself, he went nuts, saying that the medical establishment was all part of some global conspiracy to suppress the truth and continue to peddle poison on behalf of " big pharma " !

That was in the early days of him going down the rabbit hole and it`s got way worse since, as he`s tagged all the far right stuff onto it too.

I`ve pretty much given up now, as he completely and utterly lives and breathes all this nonsense and as much as it pains me, it`s just easier not to engage with him on it.

Ive lived in the US for a long time, a little bit stuck here now ( grandkids etc) but anyway, met some old British friends in Cancun and the first thing the wife said to me was " Donald Trump is doing such a great job for your country, wish we could have him" didnt know what to do- cry or clock her. Funny thing is later she was bemoaning that she couldnt retire in Spain anymore...i asked if she voted for Brexit which of course she did...anyway i fear for the UK. America is on a very scary precipice. Be careful what you wish for back in Blighty...you might just get it.

Indeed, I really hate the sentiment that "all parties are the same" and therefore voting doesn't matter. It's just a dumb ignorant take on something that is demonstrably untrue. If anyone needs evidence that all political parties are not the same, just look over here at the USA under Trump.

I’ve mentioned this on here before (probably in the old CA forum) but my mate runs an estate agents out in Spain and the stories he has of all the British expats who voted for brexit then had to sell up and move home are wild.

Turns out, when you have several hundred people trying to sell villas they paid £200k+ for all at the same time, none of them got anywhere near that amount back.

Many tantrums, blaming everyone else around them, zero self awareness.
