Find it shocking but not surprising the tosh on here aimed at Bill, wonder if other club supporters hate their chairmen as much? If people are that bothered, why don't ya plan some mass protests to get him out!

Not a defence of BK by any stretch, but as far as I can see, we are the only team in the top 6 that has signed anyone this window so far. Granted we have sold someone too, so that evens it out.

It's not like anyone else in the top 6 is doing loads of business though, and Martinez himself has said numerous times he doesn't like buying in January unless it is absolutely right.

In an ideal world we'd strengthen the squad in January, but there are lots of things 'in an ideal world' that could be done to improve Everton that simply aren't possible.

The facts are, if we can tie Baines and Barkley down to new deals, that represents good business, because the alternative is selling them and trying to replace them with players of the same calibre, which would be extremely hard/nigh on impossible.

Not criticising, yet. All I'm saying is that all I care about as an Evertonian during a transfer window is what transfers are happening and how we're performing on the pitch. As such, I'll treat statements like this from the chairman who is renowned for not investing so much as a five pound note into the club with a degree of suspicion until proven otherwise. We're a striker down - I'd like to see him replaced with a bit of the £15-20m we should have spare for transfers rather than a back-patting exercise from the chairman because he thinks it's safe to do whilst we're doing well.

On the one hand he comes out with some real mushy guff. On the other, he is one of the very few Chairmen who's club operates at the top of the league but still keeps the sort of local values more often seen at small town or village clubs. I want my team winning stuff and being 'big' as we always were, but I think his values in respect of the community the club serves are to be commended tbh........

Message From Chairman Bill

As most of you will know, I like to keep my statements as a Chairman to a minimum, especially after we've been tonked in a big game or have just closed a transfer window.

However, we're doing ok right now, so here I am.

I maybe find it difficult at times to adequately summon up the finances to back the manager in the transfer market, but my devotion to our Football Club - and the belief in that devotion of my flock of blue sheep - allows me to attempt today to get away with gegging in on an Everton in the Community project idea and take full credit for it.

Some people will call our young “stand in match-day appointees!” an attempt to cut wages on the day by getting kids to do a full days work without pay, but as I always say to Jenny, if you cant lend a hand in driving down youth unemployment these days what sort of feller are you?

The previous Saturday, just before Christmas, we kept the Goodison lights on after a game (cost us a few quid like, but it's Christmas, so what can you do?) and opened our doors to some of the community who are less privileged than others, so there we were: me, Early and Greeny, and Dr Baxters' glove puppet nephew enjoying the Everton People’s Picnic, where we ate, laughed, and sang our way to Christmas.

And that’s the reason I am writing today. We are a great Football Club. The best. But we are more than that - we are a family that looks out for people down to their last billion, because that's what we are: Evertonians.

And I still want to say thank you to our tireless CEO Robert the only way I can, with a renewal of his annual membership to County Road tanning palace.
