A Case for the Defence

I agree with most of what you say.

On the point of squad and new talent though, I don't think there is any harm in having talented players (Deulofeu, Galloway, etc) battling to get into the squad. Not playing does not detract from their talents, it just means we're growing a bit of depth in squad which were not used to.

On the youth development, I think Martinez has done well here. It's not easy to break young players into the squad, but from our youth side Barkley has become pivotal and Galloway very promising.

Not from our own youth squad, but Rom is only 22 and Stones 21, together with Barkley they are three high profile players under 23, credit due to Martinez for that.

There is no doubt about quality of our players but they are not being used IMO to the best of their ability.

For me, if he goes out of the FA Cup this weekend, he should be sacked ASAP and this season written off. I don't think he will achieve anything other than mid table.

Getting the new manager in now, will avoid any messing about during the summer, and give the new manager enough time to get the squad how he wants.

Wait until summer and knowing us there will be a big song and dance, we'll get someone last minute and be ill-prepared.

At least start looking now.

I dislike this sort of thing which Dave keeps dwelling on, many times I have said all that is history we should concern ourselves with the now.

It's unfair to cast untrue aspersions on the period in which Moyes managed us. He had plenty of faults, but if you achieve a top 4 finish with Marcus Bent leading the line, you can't be described as a 'terrible football manager'.

And Bobby has never finished as high as Moyes, the point?
Mad how this debate is still raging! None of us hire or fire, just have to see what the new overlord thinks.
I can tell you now mate - Martinez is our manager next season.

Generally? One season.

Martinez has to finish 17th to equal Moyes' great record.
Actually, no, Martinez has to improve us in nearly every way to equal what Moyes did, shouldn't be too hard, he's not financially restricted in the same way Moyes was.

So far he has improved our aesthetics and our goals for column.. Whilst dragging us down the league table... Needs to do way better to improve us like Moyes did.

Oh aye mate because there's a whole host of quality managers available now rather than waiting for the summer.

This sort of frantically typed wham will eventually get us the club we deserve.
