Moyes took us from relegation threatened to 4th 5th and 6th so I don’t see how he created the 7th placed trophy. It’s a media construct, in reality 2nd place is best of the rest, or 5th place if you’re counting CL or 8th place if its on Europe. Just picking out where Everton are and calling it best of the rest is ridiculous.

It's not a media construct. It's the reality as this league is dominated by the moneybag teams the so-called Big 6. Thus I call 7th the best of the rest.

Question about the cup spot...I searched but couldnt find a good answer to it, if a non-premiership team were to win the FA cup, would they get the Europa League spot, or does it then just revert to the highest premier league team?

Good question, Perry.

In the old days of the UEFA Cup, a team had to be top flight in their own country in order to play in it.

I think it is different now.

Were Wigan not in the Championship when they played in the EL a few years ago, following their F.A. Cup win and relegation “double”?

In fact, they must have been.

So when we were finishing 5th under Moyes ahead of Spurs and City, or in his last two seasons ahead of Liverpool twice in a row why were we still referred to as best of the rest even when we were ahead of teams in the top 6? And when we were 5th under Martinez? Ahead of Spurs but best of the rest?

Don’t further propagate a big 6 construct. There is one trophy and 4 CL spots, everything else is meaningless. If we’re 7th we’re not best of the rest, the 5th place team is.

Cup winners get Europa spot, doesn't matter the league they are in.

If he get's 7/8th mate he is deffo staying, like you though I've got this funny feeling he'll be seeing that year out left on his contract no matter.

I'm inclined to agree. I'm a little bemused by the extremely confident assertions by some that he's a stop gap. No idea what the basis I'd except he's disliked as Everton manager by them. There'll be some serious fume if he's still here.

What if 5th place (for example, Spurs) wins CL, and Arsenal wins Europa League, so now top 6 all have CL spots for next year. And also let's say no one outside of those 6 wins a cup (sorry to tell you @skybluematt, but you're not going to win -- although I admit I have no idea who you support). Does that mean that there's 3 available EL spots? Would 7th, 8th, 9th all go? Would 7th go straight to group stage?

Simple. Because at that time even we were ahead of them for a few occasions, these moneyball teams were way ahead of Everton in terms of financial power. Until we are able to afford buying better players and at the sametime we got to back that up by results and better league position, this club would view by most people (mainstream media)as best of the rest. We do spend more under Moshiri and a new stadium is in place as it stands so we are heading in the right direction.

This is not to propagate a big 6 construct. This is the harsh reality even you may not concur.

BFS cannot focus on anything other than relegation, it is all he knows. He is playing a clever game, if he keeps the threat of relegation to the fore then when we don't get relegated then he has been successful. If he was to raise expectations above staving off relegation and then finish outside the top half then he would appear to have failed. That wouldn't suit his self serving outlook.
Absolute nailed on assessment of BFS modus operandi (for those who don't know Latin - way of operating or pulling wool over punters eyes)
