I haven't had a drink, maybe therein lies my problem:@

Nah.

Drink could not solve your problem.

Maybe looking for problems where there is none is a problem.

You say we are the best club in the league.

Far from it I am afraid.

Best team in the League, I would have agreed with. We have the best team spirit the league has seen for years.

You live on negativity and pessimism. Whatever suits you best. You need to chill out and cheer up.

I'm happy already, just kidding about the drink thing.
So long as there is Everton and Michael Jackson there is sunshine in my life

no1`s saying we`re the best, just we`re all hopein to be better than villa and spures and a win tomorrow will be sweet..

I think we have every right to look at the top four and be competitive for it. Im not saying we are shoe ins for it nor should we burn Goodison to the ground if we dont get it but i beleive we have earned the right in recent seasons to expect to be competitive for it.

When you look at the squad now and when everyone is fit there is a serious amount of quality in it, better depth etc. One thing this team this has is goals, right around the park excluding maybe Hibbert. We have two strikers capable of scoring over 20, midfeilders who should break double figures - as well as having high assist ratios and our defence bar probably Hibbert can score to. My concern is at the back to be honest - we have improved drasticley recently - but to enjoy a high finish we will have to have a mean defensive ratio. Moyes was saying yesterday morning he now has a core 18 players of first team quality he can draw on with confidence, i remember comments last season about him saying that he didnt have much depth apart form the first 11.

Anyway i think we should expect and be confident in being competitive for the top four. Its a 38 game season not a 5 game one.

We'll end 4th or 5th. We've seemingly turned our season around earlier than usual. More teams are getting results against the 'big 4' as well, so I think its a perfect combo. When we finish 5th in the league then most of our squad fits into the 5th best in the league bracket and we've added some versatile and quality players. The UEFA cup spurred us on a few years ago and I have no doubt the Europa League will do the same this year.

i`d love to finish 5th, i recon it`d bring in new invest fast. there`s a chance we could do it aswell, i know man city beat arsenal but plenty of teams do that and when they played manu , manu was all over them they just toulk there chance all of 3 of them.

Just wanted to point out the error made with the Joleon Lescott transfer saga. Now I hate to compare us to Spurs but what happened with Lescott echoed the saga spurs endured when Berbatov threw his toys out of the pram to joined Man U.

The disruption was evident as spurs endured a shocker of a start to their season. They held out too long, refusing several offers to eventually get their asking price of £31m, just £3m more than was on offer a month earlier. Subsequently sacrificing time for any proper reinvestment in the squad and ultimately ended up short in attack. By the end of august the focus of the squad had been destroyed and they later had to sack their manager, costing them much more than £12m and arguably several places in the league. (worth £2-20m depending on what they qualified for) Jowlyface then stung the board for £50m for new players in January.

Now only a fool would say our squad's concentration wasn't rocked by the Man City affair, and I feel the new recruits were signed in an air of panic so I'm chuffed to see the team putting things right so soon. However, with our rivals starting so well (villa, citeh & spurs) and the sky 4 obviously going to be running things close for the title, I feel this year especially we couldn't afford a slow start.

Moyes and Round have done superbly to steady the ship, the new boys are gelling, as are the youngsters and we have more balance and strength in depth than last year. Sadly the bar has been raised that bit higher. Now don't get me wrong, I am filled with optimism for the future and this season. Next season is the one I see us breaking into the top four though, just hope the lesson has been learned that holding out for an extra couple of £m is rarely the smartest economics in football.

Well written post m8 to which I think you hit the nail on the head on more than one occasion.
I can't leave you good rep because I have done so recently, but if I could, much to your disdain, I would. :D

I think that 4th or 5th would a be a tall order but not impossible. 6th/7th realistic but can we just let the team get out and win games and worry about our finish in May?

Over on RAWK they are sting in their pants that it will be them or Arsenal to mis out on the CL. They are in apoplectic land worrying about not being in the CL and missing out on the gravy train which will really f*** up their financial situation. Apparently the full payment on the shirt deal with Standard Charter is dependent on results particularly getting into the CL.

They have the cheek to complain about big spending clubs, I say welcome to the real world.

I believe we will finish 6th this season, top five will be the usual plus Man C and then us, i still think with the recent buys we have added we have a better squad than A Villa and Spurs.

for the record i think:

1- Chelsea
2- Man C
3- MAN U
4- Liverpoo
5- Arsenal
6- Everton
7- Tottenham
8- A Villa

And yes i spelt Liverpoo wrong

Oh no you didnt!! :p

Like it did this year? And last? :(

5th is the miniumum imho why settle for less?

5th is acheivable, but harder than ever to attain. I'd be very happy with 5th, content with 6th and maybe seventh. I almost expect us to overachieve (in terms of position) year in year out now.

However I dont believe in this Nil Satis/winning the league is all that qualifies as a success stuff. It's just not realistic at the moment. May as well complain why we didn't beat Barca for the Champ league last season.

Sure I'd love to win the league, and ofcourse i'm disappointed that another year will pass without us doing so, but complaining and calling it a failure for failing to do so is like calling it a failure if you don't win the lottery when you never bought a ticket! :dodgy:
