5pm announcement

Just boss news. Another positive indicator that this is moving forward and having the option to expand to 62k is brilliant and a huge bonus. Once everyone's calmed down and got over the 52k number and the positives start to sink in, I think (barring the usual, loud few) blues will generally be made up.

If we'd been none the wiser on any of these plans and progress over the last couple of years and it had somehow all been announced tonight, that we'd be part of the redevelopment of the northern docks in a 52k seater stadium, designed by Meis, with the option to expand to 62k, with the interior to look like the early designs from the workshop, this place would be delirious tonight and rightly so.

The option to expand by 10k is an absolute ball-ache for anyone trying to call this small-time or unambitious. If the required demand for a 60k+ seater is there (it'll only be there if we're in the top 4) then we categorically will expand as it will be in the club's (and those running it) interest to do so. If the demand isn't there, we won't be rattling around in an enormous stadium, wasting money on 10k+ empty seats and won't have shelled out the huge wedge needed to fund the extra capacity.

The money that we'll save in the short-term can be invested in the playing staff that can deliver the success on the pitch needed to fill a 62k-seater stadium.

It's ideal if you're arsed about Everton. It's a disaster if you're arsed about banter accounts on social media.

Yeah the club would defo prefer 52000 boooooers than a mighty 62000 people booing..

There would be a huge risk of the stadium breaking away from the Dock and being booed to Birkenhead..

That's what I was sort of thinking. We're filling Goodison every game, so near enough 39k, then a waiting list of 10k for season tickets, that's 49k, then a percentage of that 52k we have to give to away fans, makes you wonder if we could have gone to 55k now with the premise to expand to 62k if needs be.
Not sure the 10k waiting list is real

Sums the club up.

10,000 less seats than what 90% of the fan base wanted.

Totally embarrassing. Why build a new stadium that leaves you at around tenth in capacity in the prem.

That means 9 teams can out perform you in Revenue streams...

Already behind in the game

Totally Everton.

Well in
Capacity is only a very small factor in revenue
In Croke Park ( Dublin ) 20 seats for a big game will cost 1000 Euro
A corporate box holding 20 people will cost 8-10k including food and drink

I'm pretty sure that Dan Meis has said that the last 10,000 seats in a stadium are the most expensive to build, least popular and bring in the least revenue.

Makes sense to me. The extra seats are all high up in the sky. It seems obvious that lower tier seats are going to be cheaper to build those than in upper tiers.

Personally, I hate sitting in upper tiers. The atmosphere is poor and detached. The view is like watching subbeteo. I'd honestly rather not go to the game than have to watch it up in the heavens.

Must admit been high up in the main stand years ago, not even the top, haha and the players did look tiny, couldn't make out who was who.

I’ve been to the top of the stands in the Nou Camp and it’s scary
Croke Park 80k is just as bad at the top
You don’t want to negotiating those steps in a rush to the bogs after a few beers
