It was never a 4231 anyway. Its a 442 without a proper striker. Sigurdsson spends more time up front then he does in midfield. A switch to a 442 basically sees us switching Sigurdsson for DCL, Walcott or Tosun. It doesn't improve us at all and puts further pressure on our poor midfield.

I'd consider playing 3 in the back again. Just sitting Coleman down would help. But we have 1 ACM at the club, 1 CM, and 1 DM. That's it. No one else. 4-4-2 with Gomes/Gana, more behind the ball, not pushing our Fullbacks high would be another option, but not sure how that helps.
We have massive holes at RB, CM, CF, RW, and GK at least right now. Tactics can't fix that.

Tosun is virtually anonymous whenever he’s on the pitch. Our best option for holding the ball up is DCL. I think DCL and Richarlison up front could work well together.

We need someone to play next to Gomes that can pass the ball and get up and down the field for him. Gana is not that guy. RB no choice right now and CF we need to get creative on how to score goals without a true CF

He’s bigger than Tosun, he’s better in the air than Tosun, he’s got a better touch than Tosun, he’s stronger than Tosun, he’s faster than Tosun, he works harder than Tosun, he scores more goals than Tosun and he creates more goals than Tosun.
Maybe you need to get real. Tosun is not the answer. Neither is Sigurdsson up front FFS.

Better in the air? not quite (may jump higher but accuracy is the same), better touch? No way, stronger? Same level, faster? Of course, works harder? Who cares tosuns positioning is better (work smarter not harder), scores/creates more? 9 goals and 2 assists in 63 matches (DCL) vs 7 goals and 2 assists in 25 (Tosun)
...i’m really not bothered by formations, it’s all about what players do when we have the ball and what they do when the opposition has the ball.
