2026 FIFA World Cup - General Chat

Tim Ream named our captain by Poch. That’s him starting. Better be a back 3.

Never heard of him

Watching the US v Senegal. Senegal’s defence look like they have hacked the Everton coaching manual. 20 minutes gone and the US are 2 up.

Ndiaye looking very much like our recent version, barely involved.

Anyway, my point is, the commentator just said, that one of the US players had “jumped the passing lane”

If any of our Stateside readers are able to advise what this actually means, I’d be very appreciative ?

Was it a defensive play by the US? If so they probably mean he cut off a pass. "Jumped" can mean "got in the way of" or "overtook".
There is a youtube channel opportunity for you here, using clips of american sports to illustrate the lingo and then it's application to football.

It would work handily reverse engineered for us viewers also.

The technology on display here is the best, probably the most fantastically bestest in the history of football.

It’s 3-2, has been so for ages. The broadcast and ground scoreboard, has it as 2-2.

I can just imagine Kenneth Woolstenholme, back in the day, saying, and there’s Terry Darracott, impressively jumping the passing lane.

I think it's when you go from the inside lane on the motorway all the way to the outside to pass a middle lane hogger doing 65.

Ok, so all these new rules for the WC presumably have to filter down the pyramid, otherwise it’s a different sport with different rule-set?

5 second count down for throw ins puts an immediate end to the new long throw craze as both CBs would need to sprint from the halfway line to get into box. Not happening. Great news for us as ours are pathetic.

Going to be a weird watch with 5 second throws and goal kicks. Although it will have to be once the player has the ball, or the keeper puts the ball down. They will just perform even more embarrassing acts to delay the start of the countdown; dropping the ball, adjusting their underpants etc.

Collina is behind the changes so whatever they are we can be sure they all result in us losing.

It means that they understand so little about football that they shouldn't have been allowed the tournament.

So, sides will end up with official time keepers, whose will fight out an infringement first.

pitch side monitors
var experts at finchley farm
official time keepers
captains challenges
goal line tech that can be switched off
bookings for not catching a ball to take a throw
red card hair pulls mid air

What even is this?
