I earlier suggested Newsom was the toughest Dem for Trump to beat in Nov. I think Newsom may soon have major political troubles, maybe even ensuring he couldn't win. A serious question; who else do the Dems have other than Biden or Harris? Is Buttigieg still a serious player in the Dem field? Anyone else?

Buttigieg never was, and viewed from over the pond I would say that anyone from the mainstream / establishment Dems isn’t either. That leaves AOC and Manchin, and Manchin is on the cusp of being too old.

Neither of those are realistic alternatives to what they’ve got at present.
Manchin will be 77 by the time the election rolls around, is retiring, and was basically a Republican anyway. I suspect the only reason he never formally switched parties is because he enjoyed the outsized power sitting on the fence always gave him. A proper Democrat would have no chance of being elected in West Virginia.
AOC is the exact opposite. At the moment she’s not even old enough to be President (but will be eligible by Election Day), lacks anything resembling the experience that has historically been necessary to be a serious candidate (Trump notwithstanding…having been a Senator, governor, or VP is the prerequisite), and is MUCH too far to the left to be seen as viable in a nationwide election. Same issue Bernie had. For every young progressive she would inspire to get out to the polls, she might leak two moderates, and you can’t win these razor thin elections that way.

Well…so much for initial impression from one of the early debates that for a Republican her takes on abortion weren’t that awful.

I could have sworn I remember her talking at one of the debates about how they needed to start being honest with their voters about how a national abortion ban wasn’t possible. Maybe I am misremembering, or maybe she was just being sneaky with her semantics.
Doesn’t really matter now unless Trump dies or ends up in prison before the election. Otherwise she has no chance at the nomination this year, and will have no future in the party going forward because she not only refused to kiss the ring, but was brazen enough to spit on it.
