Current Affairs 2024 POTUS race

In my opinion the Democrats lost this as they persisted with Biden 6+ months longer than they should have, it was clear to everyone he wasn't gonna make it to election night and if he did he was a lame duck.

I have my own opinion on Harris being pretty useless, but even if the people asserting she's actually super qualified etc are right (I don't believe she is - but let's say she actually is for arguments sake) then she was still left with the fact she was shoehorned in without any real challenge, and also with limited time remaining, coupled with the added fact she was the VP so couldn't believably avoid being tied to anything bad in terms of policy issues (Israel, the border, covering for a president who was in rapid decline).

A 6 month earlier shift from Biden, an open selection process - likely resulting in a different candidate and I think the Dems would have won this comfortably.

Sticking with the ticket in a sort of way allowed trump to link stuff and spout his speel he had prepared for Biden just scratching the name out and putting in Harris.

She may still win it, although it appears unlikely now, but she was the wrong choice for many reasons (and I do t buy the fact she's a woman had anything to do with it - Clinton did t lose due to that either, Obama showed in general the independents aren't voting on race or sex - hell his wife would have probably buried trump in an election as well).
There were plenty of women who voted against Clinton who said when asked how they could vote for Trump after the Access Hollywood tape that they didn't think a woman should be in charge. The US has an inherent misogyny, and it is showing up again tonight. Depressing stuff. Especially when the other option is the worst kind of man and they still choose him

Quite surprised by the enormous slide to republicans in the latino vote.

But to be honest, they ran the same campaign as Hillary and it failed again.

I guess there is a chance Vance might take over at some point later in Trumps presidency given Trunp is already in cognitive decline. Depends on if it ramps up quickly like it did for Biden.

Not sure if having a competent wrongun is better or worse than having an incompetent wrongun…
Vance will be much worse

Trump is a buffoon but showed the playbook to a younger smarter more well polished version of himself

This is the beginning

Worried what future is shaping for my kid down here in Poland. Baltic states will be in very big danger soon enough, ehhh.

Yeah but that mindset of female voter would be republican through and through anyway mate - I could be wrong but don't think that's gonna be the reason she loses (as it looks likely now), I think it will be trotted out in the media as a driving factor though.

I'd also say this forum isn't a true reflection or close to it of the USA - obviously, pretty much to a man/woman the posters from over there are very much Dems so naturally anti Trump - the pro trump people seem to be either WUMs or crackpots like emir, cork etc.

But there's a reason why Trump looks like getting back in even with all his baggage that goes way beyond misogyny etc, clear there's now an absolutely huge political divide there. And it's not just crackpot MAGA people but 50% of the country and especially the north south divide.

How is it fixed - that becomes the pertinent issue, but not sure I give Trump credit alone for creating it, I think he just capitalised on a divide that already was there waiting to be pulled side open.

Who he appoints will be critical to how 'Trump' he will go now, first time he had himself surrounded by people who neutered him on many things, does the same happen again or does he surround himself with loyalists. If the latter then it's going to be a damned scary time for the world with an unfettered Trump in charge

Thing that always worried me most about Trump is he's massively unpredictable abd you don't ever want that in a leader of any country never mind the worlds biggest superpower.

Vance for sure is smarter and more polished - which if you want to find a positive to hang onto - 'may' give the hope that he saw an opportunity to inherit the Trump base but isn't actually a true believer but it was expedient to appear too.

I've been clear, doesn't really matter which one won to me, US foreign policy is very very rarely driven by who is president. The State department drives it thus it'll still be a neocon agenda whoever sits in the oval office - Trump's first term/Obama/Biden nothing really changed overall.

It's been an interesting if somewhat of a surreal experience to watch though.
People will make their own minds up regarding that.
