Excuse my ignorance but does this favour trump or harris?
Prior to Biden dropping out RFK was probably pulling an equal amount from Trump and Biden but with Harris he is hurting Trump more.
Which is why I expect Trump to cut some form of deal with him to withdraw from the race - they are already rumored to have talked about it.

I just drove down and back to Asheville, NC for the weekend. This route takes me through Appalachia, through the entire state of West Virginia, southwest VA, and the easternmost sliver of TN
The last time I did this drive, in full, was November of 2016. Now I've been in middle of nowhere West Virginia numerous times since then, but on this whole route, not since 2016
What struck me, like a punch in the face, was the distinct lack of any of the following that I could see on the road or when I made stops - Trump paraphernalia, Confederate flags, Guns and God signs, etc, etc. This stuff is usually all over the place on a route like this. I mean it was virtually nowhere. It actually took me until a little south of Morgantown when I finally saw a painted Trump trailer on a hillside, and then just when I got back into PA there was some sort of lighted Trump monument thing. But other than this......nothing.
This could mean any number of things. And it's anecdotal. But for me it shows that perhaps there is a tiring out there for Trump. People are exhausted. He's a buffoon. He's not a "real man." He's just a number of things that people aren't going out of their way to show support for any more.
I don't know. But it was striking and very noticeable the lack of his brand I saw on the road.

My wife and I noted this just yesterday and had the same thought about it.
There's perhaps 10% of the volume of signs/flags in our neighborhood versus this point in 2020. There are virtually no bumper stickers for Trump on cars in the grocery store parking lot/car park or MAGA hats on shoppers.
It's a bit different when one goes outside of our urban area. There are still flags and signs but not quite at the same level.

Does this economy bad news not play into trumps hands?
It certainly will be a headwind.
Not that presidents have full control over an economy (either good or bad) but they usually do get credit/blame for it.
