The senior party leaders really don’t want a messy convention with multiple candidates - too little time for wounds to heal before the election and make a Trump reelection a walkover (with associated downballot bloodbath)
But they also would prefer the support to be somewhat organic rather than forced.
So just enough big wigs to make other candidates pause twice but not enough to make it seem like a fait accompli.

The slant here is that she is Indian and Black. GOP are denying her blackness to suppress black folks voting.
Mostly the right-wing/center-right clowns (who pretend to be "liberals" the way dholliday pretended to be a "liberal") are trying to stir the poo-pot by claiming Manchin would be a great Dem presidential candidate. He would be dead in the water against Trump, which is why this is being touted.
