This is the correct decision, I think - on both fronts.

There isn't an alternative candidate for President and it now allows them to go after Trump's age. I would expect now that Trump will refuse to take part in any further debates as well.

The VP pick is crucial though, it has to be a white male veteran from a relevant state - someone like Jason Crow.

Saw a few names thrown out. Shapiro makes a lot of sense…

The stupidity that got us here meant she was the only option…If she doesn’t win, the party leadership needs to look inwards rather than blaming others. This could be done and dusted had they been competent in planning for the last 2 years.
Well, it's a farce. No point getting rid of the old man for a loser. The whole point of asking him to step down was because people had lost confidence in him winning. But to move him on and replace with her? Ha ha. Comedy central.

I'm not sure, I think anyone who brings "lifetime politician" to the party dooms it.

This is going to be an election where a greater % of the electorate are disgusted with politics and so surely they need someone who can point to things they've done outside politics that were remarkable - military service, being an astronaut, genuine business success etc.

We don't know that. Anyone can beat this idiot with a focused enough campaign and a bit of unity

Oh how much fun would it be if during these last few months Biden could pass a law baring anyone over retirement age running for President or being over the retirement age at any point during the term on office. Fantasy island stuff but imagine the fallout/joy.

Biden has as much chance of beating Trump as she has. And he has actually done it before.

The Democrats have been idiots and jeopardised the western world with their self-indulgence and lack of planning.

I have zero faith that America will elect a woman in my lifetime - and even less that it will be a black woman.

Kamala seems a decent sort to me - and a vegetable would be a more worthy vote recipient than Adolf Trump, but the whole point of moving out Joe Biden was to replace with somebody with a significantly better chance of defeating Trump. Anointing Harris after all this strikes me as ludicrous self indulgence. Let's hope I am proven to be a cynic.

Biden's legacy will have the biggest 'effing black mark on it if Trump wins in November.

Though it was always gonna be a lose-lose situation for him. If he stayed in, and lost, people would blame his age/cognition; if he dropped out, as he did just now, he did it way too late and shouldn't have been running for reelection in the first place.

His only option to have saved face was to announce back in 2021 he wasn't gonna run for reelection...that way he could just be a very efficient one-term president with few other dubious marks on his resume. But no...he didn't do this and he and Dems are partly to blame (the media's constant both-sidesism of Trump versus Biden was also at play...they are not similar in character, morals, or commitment to public service, among many other things).

It was obvious to the world that Biden had to be a transition president that saved us all from evil. But not to the Democrats or Biden, it seems. His ego took over and the Dems proved to be inadequate in dealing with it.

He's left it too late and they are apparently obliged to choose a candidate who might have even less chance than the president. A farce.
