An FBI official has just testified under oath that the Hunter Biden laptop is legitimate. This, despite 51 senior intelligence officials telling us it was likely a Russian disinformation play. Not only intel officials but also twitter, Facebook, Google etc. One of the oldest newspapers in the US, the NY Post, had it's twitter account locked because they broke the story. Many other accounts were subject to the same censorship.

There’s a pattern with Trumpers that all these 3 letter government institutions, the justice system and legacy media are corrupt and not be trusted, except when they’re saying something that we agree with, and in those cases we’ll put front and centre the authority of that source “An FBI official has testified under oath…”

For the avoidance of doubt, I’m not calling into question this testimony. I don’t give a sh!t about Hunter Biden and he looks guilty as sin to me.

I did go and refresh my memory of this whole Hunter thing, and despite people from Twitter at the time saying there was no FBI/government direction in blocking the story being shared, and a Musk-directed probe after the takeover not being able to find any evidence either, it's still clearly a right-wing talking point.

Presumably this is another case where because they "feel" there must have been some corruption it definetly happened, and it's up to any naysayers to provide evidence to the contrary.

In fact an FBI agent involved in the case supposedly gave a sworn statement that the agency had nothing to do with Twitter's decision. No doubt they were one of the "bad" FBI guys that faked Jan 6th and need defunding, not like this new "good" FBI agent who says dopamine-inducing words for the Far Right and is therefore a top patriot bravely going against their Soros-backed bosses.

And likewise, it does seem that Hunter was a very silly lad and owned a thing he shouldn't have owned. I think the whole case speaks to the wider problems that the US has with both drugs and gun ownership, but on the face of it he's seems to have done the crime and should do the time. No doubt at the point the Republicans in Washington will be happy to leave it there and not rake over the coals for anything to link to the POTUS himself.

For the avoidance of doubt, I’m not calling into question this testimony. I don’t give a sh!t about Hunter Biden and he looks guilty as sin to me.

We're here because the Trump-appointed judge reviewing the plea deal didn't want to sign off on what the parties agreed for the admission of guilt, which led to hasty renegotiations in the courtroom and the deal's collapse. This behavior by the judge was unusual, but not totally without merit.

So, we're having an actual show trial where the defendant has already admitted guilt. We're doing this because it's the only way the judge can determine a sentence, if prosecution and defense cannot agree (and all trust between the parties is now gone).

It looks likely to lead to a sentence of a low number of months in a minimum security federal pen rather than zero, plus no immunity from future prosecutions by a Trump DoJ that is instructed to pile onto Hunter. Those were the provisions at issue in the deal that fell apart under the judge's scrutiny.

It's more a technical question of ballot access. Each of the fifty states has different rules on that one. RFK Jr. is currently in a dispute with Nevada, is on the ballot in something like eighteen other states, and is in the process of gaining access to the ballot in the remaining states.

As a practical matter, his presence on the ballot probably matters in only ten of the fifty states or so. All he can do is tip the election from one major party candidate to the other, unless he can by some miracle get 270 electoral votes.

At his present level of polling, RFK Jr. probably helps Biden. If he starts winning states, that helps Trump if it throws the election to the House of Representatives. 270 is in no way realistic, even if Biden and Trump both die in October.

I'll be waiting for all the republicans trying to square his conviction. They'll end up making him a hero and claiming biden and the deep state sacrificed him to give the trump conviction credibility. Maybe trump will offer to make him his vice president?

In all seriousness. If he's found guilty of lying on a form to get a gun and gets a ban from gun ownership or some sort of suspended sentence, I'll be ok with that. Sucks for him that he got caught up in political shenanigans (to use a biden term) but he's probably also benefited from his dads status too.
