Certainly not.
Turnout in 2017 for instance was 78.7% first round and 74.6% for the second round.
So, 20 to 25 % abstention may be the norm.
Abstension not turnout.
Yes you're right - I misunderstood what I was reading: it was 25% by midday, not a projection of the final figure as I thought. Had reached 65% by 5pm, a bit down on the last one.

Opinion polls published before the first vote suggest Macron will win the second round against Le Pen on 24 April by 52% to 48%.

See Marcon is winning, everything is fine, nothing to see here, nothing to worry about.

Really feeling nervous about the outcome of this elections. Would be disastrous for the world if in the next few years we have people like Le Pen and Trump being in charged of some the world’s greatest powers. Scary times.
I went to see To Kill a Mockingbird at the theatre over the weekend, and it was a nice reminder that it is generally the same demographic that has been viewed as "deplorable" throughout the last few hundred years. It was also a timely reminder that in that time we still haven't done a great job of encouraging those folk to not be deplorable.

Mélenchon apparently a very close third. A lot closer than the 'official exit polls' suggested.

That's why there should be an embargo on any result/exitpoll until all the polling stations are closed.
Instead, some declared Le Pen a close second two hours before the voting ended.

So Macron wins a head to head because the majority of Melenchon voters think Le Pen is batpoop crazy?
The majority of Melenchon voters would obviously prefer to not have to vote for either.
However some will vote for MLP because they are strongly opposed to the Macron reforms. They will abstain or vote for his opponent.
