First time in ages air quality been good enough to be able to sit out on the deck - had to wash off lots of ash from the loungers before hand though.

You're not really selling this holiday destination. I think the Californian tourist board are going to regret giving you the job tbh... :p

Seriously though, glad it's improving. Fingers crossed it keeps on that way. Stay safe.

A week can make a huge difference to the holiday photos!

When I was in SF the ferry staff told us that it was the first day in months it was clear (albeit that was because of the usual fog), so in some way the guys in the bay area must be used to that view. Such a shame though as it's a beautiful part of the world.

Of course it's a big difference between smoke and fog, my breathing is not the best during normal conditions, I can barely tolerate smoke from small fires tbh so it must be a nightmare. I hope it isn't causing a lot of health problems there. With any luck you'll get a good amount of rain to help - not too much though - don't want to go from one natural disaster to another...

Unfortunately we’re unlikely to get much rain until November if season is as normal. Although 2020 isn’t “normal” so cross fingers we do get a storm roll in - but without lightning as that caused at lot of the fires in the first place!

When we first moved here Sept/Oct were the months we recommended family/friends to visit it was so fantastic and least likely for those “the coldest winter I ever spent was summer in San Francisco“ comments but past few years have got increasingly bad air quality sadly but even then I didn’t predict anything like we’ve had for the past month.

Pity we can’t find a way to share in some of the rain the east coast is likely to get to our mutual benefit.

Oh yes I know that feeling. The coldest I have ever been was on a morning excursion to Muir woods. Of course I have been in colder places but I have never been so ill-prepared for the weather. Later on that morning we stopped off at Sausalito and the weather was warm, very warm in fact. Nearly to the point it thawed out my blue lips...

"Oregon Senator - Fred Girod, R-Stayton, who fled to Texas in 2019 to avoid voting on climate change reform bill in Oregon, had his home and truck destroyed by one of our many fires. Fred also abandoned his 3 cats to die in the fire. "

I know Republicans like to care about themselves and no one else but come on.

And not 24 hours later I wake up to blessed rain - you are a marvel @The binman chronicles !

It is more a drizzle than a downpour but for the first time our pollution meter is reading zero

Not a problem, call in a few favours with the bloke upstairs and hey presto. Easy to get rain on demand in California but never seems to work with the lottery numbers though... :p
