People on both sides agree with alot of stuff together but they have the big outlying issues and thats what people align with. Simple
i used to feel that way till Trump came along.
He has made the far right acceptable.
We have right wing politicians falling over each other to garner the support of racist, xenophobic, bigots.
The republicans have learned that the only way to keep power is by being submissive to the wealthiest Americans while brainwashing the poorest.
The culmination of this policy is Trump and they lost control of their party.
This country is more divided than ever, there is very little common ground.
The far left here is akin to centrist politics in most civilized countries while the far right has dragged the conversation to a dark and dangerous place.
Take one example, fiscal responsibility, normally in the GOP wheel house but generally aspired to by all, till Trump came along.
The economy has melted like a chocolate tea pot, why? sure the corona virus but also the fact that for 3 years Trump has gutted the safety structures that were there to prevent against economic collapse in an emergency.
His booming economy was paper thin while the rich were encouraged to tear apart the safety net.
Look at the fed. With Trumps thumb on the scales, they hardly touched interest rates in a time of huge prosperity, now in a time of crisis, there's nowhere to go.
I get that Bush and Obama were partizan and divisive and I can see why people voted for them and hated them but Trump is a whole new level of, well, insanity.
The fact that you don't regret your vote in '16, is damning.
You seem like a smart fella who has conservative values which is fine but if you can't see that you're being played by a bunch of crooks who have only their own interests in mind, then we're screwed.
The day conservatives stand up to Trump is the day I might see a glimmer of hope for this country.
