Smart move. Biden needs to enthuse the democratic base and currently he doesn't - his only pull is that he's not Trump.

If he makes Sanders a key part of his team going into an election campaign then it gives him a whole new angle of attack.
definitely, at least he knows his weakness and does something to recover

Er why? Who else are they going to vote for?

It's a sign of huge weakness and insecurity that Biden's team is making moves like that.

It's the "I can't be arsed voting" crowd it helps to pull in.

There'll be loads of Sanders supporters bitter about Biden and quite possibly won't turn out.

Voting against something is fine. Combine it with voting for something and you have a winner.

Talking about insecurity I’ve been getting about 3 emails like this a day and their tone have got increasingly frantic (I have no idea how the hell I got on a republican mailing list and it seems impossible to get off now on as they completely ignore my unsubscribe requests! )

Fellow Conservative,

President Trump and his top allies have been trying to warn you. They reached out multiple times to let you know that we are in danger of losing the Senate Majority!

But you’ve still ignored all of their calls for help.

Seriously? Its not about who else but about them actually turning up. Any missing vote is a vote for Trump, so the only way to get the progressive voters to turn out is to get Sanders, AOC etc on board. Its one move he had to make

Well I give them credit for not continuing to hide in the basement with their bunker mentality, so it makes them look like they're doing something. However, I don't think this move does anything for Biden except makes him look weak. Having to go cap in hand to Bernie looks desperate. What do you think Bernie has extracted for his pound of flesh? AOC as VP?

Presumably you loved how Trump humiliated most of his other primary opponents - domination politics?

Democrats typically favour someone who can build a consensus across the various factions of the party, probably one reason why Biden won the primary over Sanders in the first place.

Yes. What with that being a role that she is 100% constitutionally eligible for and all......

I'm surprised you think that. Particularly after the DNC stitched up Bernie last time, for Hillary's coronation. I did enjoy Trump fighting his way through the field. If he hadn't had to work for it, there were times in the run up to the election were the pressure was so intense on Trump that he may well have walked away and said I don't need this. You have to be the best to prevail in such a tough contest. I take my hat off to anyone that runs for President and sticks it out as long as they can.

You didn’t read what I wrote - “Democrats typically favour someone who can build a consensus”.

Bernie is not a member of the Democratic party and neither are a lot of his supporters. Many felt (and still do) that ”establishment“ democrats are as much as an issue as Republicans - see the comments under on this earlier post

Sanders lost the 2016 primary because, despite energizing a huge number of younger voters, he did not get much traditional democrat support particularly African American voters. He won very few non caucus states. It was the same thing this time - traditional democrat voters (often older) when in a polling station faced with the choice between Sanders and Biden chose Biden. Those voters will have no issue with Biden giving an olive branch to Sanders - working with others (even Republicans!) and being able to compromise is one of the personal aspects of Biden that they really like!

Whether Sanders supporters are keen to work with Biden is a far trickier question.

Obama in a latest interview saying his policies aren’t as different from what the Republicans want and when you get to the governing side of things (after the fake promises election cycle). He has a 70% overlap with republicans.
