Bleak day, four more years of trump almost certain.

That said, it's a free win for Trump over Biden. Hardly worth running the election.

IF you’re right (and all available evidence says you’re massively premature, and quite possibly downright wrong), then what on earth makes you think Bernie would do any better, when his entire strategy would be reliant on turning out the youth vote... which he’s not doing.

Trump is a favourite to win re-election whoever he’s up against (due to the huge systemic advantages of incumbency). The fact that he’s a small favourite rather than a runaway one speaks to his unique unpopularity and ineptitude.

but all available evidence has Biden being a better bet to beat him than Sanders.

Absolutely nothing, because I don't think Sanders would do any better. It'd be a re-run of Corbyn's thrashing if Trump took on Sanders.

It just would have been more interesting to see the ideological clash between Trump and Sanders, in lieu of a candidate who had a prayer of beating Trump. Instead, we're getting a borderline senile establishment candidate.

Sanders would’ve been a far more interesting proposition in the same way that Ron Paul would’ve been far more interesting in 2008, but Political reality has caught up and we get the establishment candidate.

Biden is totally uninspiring, and doesn’t give natural Republicans any reason to switch allegiance.

I'm massively disappointed, I admire politicians like Bernie who are consistent and whose prolonged exposure to politics has had little to no corrupting effect. Good ideas too, apart from the notion that he could abolish private healthcare. The debates won't be half as lively now, just two old lads rambling incoherently at each other. Will be like Joey66 and Peteblue arguing over a bowl of rice pudding

Agreed Prev. But if he could get it abolished or not at least he is shooting for the moon. It’s back to looking at American politics and politics in general now with contempt and a bit of grim entertainment. Otherwise I’d go insane. I was willing to storm Kildare street and take it away at one point being active and buying into the socialist party. They talked of revolution but I think things have to be extremely drastic for people to go wakey wakey, Docile with devices and mainstream media still gripping the older generation.
