Bloomberg? Seriously? The guy who spent his entire term trying to harass minorities out of NYC not because he's racist or anything, its just y'know the places they live in could be potentially valuable real estate. The guy who thinks Mexicans are valuable in a business sense because they work hard and if they fall out of line you could always threaten to deport them. This is the functioning adult we are going to bring in?

Ever since the Soviets were no longer a threat there has been class warfare against the poor and middle class. Its been the most one-sided a**-kicking in American history. And if the party nominates Bloomberg we should really discuss formal terms of surrender.

But y'know in the debates, Bloomberg will look Trump in the eye and say "I know billionaries and you are no billionaire" and we'll be AAWWWWWWW SNAP!!! We showed him!!
Again, it’s all relative. We’re talking about trying to find someone better than a man who has bragged about sexually assaulting women, locked migrant children in cages after separating them from their parents, accused Megyn Kelly of asking questions he didn’t like because she was on her period AND felt the need to defend the size of his **** during nationally televised debates, attempted to withhold Congressionally approved foreign aid in an effort to strongarm a foreign government into interfering in the upcoming election on his behalf, and on and on and on.

I’m no big fan of Bloomberg, but I’ll take the guy who has a checkered history on race relations of Trump EVERY SINGLE TIME. Who knows, maybe he’s learned something from is past mistakes, which is something I think we can all agree that Trump is simply incapable of doing.

Yes, sorry, I made that sound more personal than it was meant to be.

You're right about the Bloomberg team playing the troll on twitter though. Libs eat it up, but are also planning to campaign against Trump entirely on the basis that he is rude on twitter (or that he's a racist sex-pest) by running... exactly the same thing, only with no charisma.

They are too dull and oblivious to realise that when Bloomberg staffers tweet things like this

The message it sends to voters is 'rich pricks in Manhattan sneer at you and think you are scum, and will spend billions of dollars to ensure that politics excludes you'

I'm not sure about that.

They are giving everyone else a much, much easier time. Like I noted, Buttigieg's health plan is catastrophic, half-baked shambles that will be extraordinarily unpopular, but apart from Jacobin and a publication which has largely been ignored since it moved left and no longer champions the Iraq war and racial IQ pseudoscience, I've not seen a peep about it.

Bloomberg is firehosing money into Florida. I know several politically connected folks working my area "for Mike!" basically for the yankee dollar.

Oppo is gathering though - when you are in your seventies you encounter folks with long memories. We'll see if he is, like Trump, incapable of shame before this sordid spectacle is over. I have to answer the door - popcorn delivery from Amazon.

me: "that's a big box!"

So that’s what we’ve come to in America, just looking for a president who can act like a functioning adult in public.

No, you could fight while there is still time to make sure that Bloomberg isn't the candidate.

Did you read the link I posted? Not much evidence of acting like a functioning adult in public there...

America, in every meaningful sense (inequality, dysfunctional public services, corruption) is a third world country. With one key difference: in the third world, people are at least aware that their countries are corrupt.

I mean.....

Given that the GOP establishment backed losers for money for decades, why not give the Dems their chance to cash in on defeat?

The Presidency bought by corrupt authoritarian racist sex-pest oligarch who does NOT tweet covfefe.

That's why my grandfather stormed Normandy.

It's pretty clear you boys haven't yet thought this through.

If Bloomberg is the nominee, he will lose.

He is much more likely to break up the Democratic Party than he is to defeat Donald Trump.

More serious still, if you choose him, then suddenly most of what ^they^ say about the Democrats, and a good deal of what they say about the United States, becomes undeniably true. You are throwing gasoline on that fire if you elect Bloomberg. And you'll be losing far more than the election.

When the common bases of political legitimacy are shown demonstrably false - and at your own behest - there is no getting that toothpaste back in the tube.

Choosing Bloomberg is not taking a tough but pragmatic stand. It is an act of hubris and monumental naivety, and proof you still don't understand how much worse things can actually get.
