In somewhat familiar fashion, football clubs fail to give any kind of media training to their star players and they then have little or no idea whatsoever of how to give a non-answer. Amateurish is an understatement.

It still baffles me as to why an allegedly intelligent Theresa May would appoint that oaf Johnson to such a high profile role of Foreign Secretary in the first place, it's got to be one of the most bizarre ministerial appointments ever made.

I dunno Andy. Presumably May has been trained to talk like an utter weirdo in interviews, but it's not just a Tory thing. Abbott had her nightmare interviews during the election, with Corbyn also fumbling on his figures. I just don't get it. I could understand if someone is a bit dull or uncharismatic, but knowing your brief inside out is your job, that should be the bread and butter, yet they seem hopeless at it.

It's hard to remember a time when we've had a worst set of politicians, and we're at such a crucial time in our history.

I always thought Johnston bumbling oaf was an act, kind of "look Im just like the eccentric uncle",but it axtually scares me that he is so popular amongst the tories and scares me even more that he could be put forward as a candidate for leadership

Did you see the Theresa V Boris programme last Sunday, if not, it's on the iPlayer... in that Johnson is described as a "rock star" by someone in his (failed) campaign team. It's laughable and somewhat scary that there are supposedly intelligent people out there who actually believe he could be Prime Minister.

I only caught a small part of it Andy, thats what I mean its scary the scenario that could emerge if May is chopped,he seems prime candidate in many peoples eyes to take up the leadership role, god help us all and I even include conservatives in that

Imagine Johnson with access to a nuclear arsenal... I wouldn't trust him with the tv remote (similar things were said of Ronald Reagan, but he actually worked out well at the time).

As @Bruce Wayne said in #9286, at this (most) important time in our countries history, we're saddled with a truly lamentable set of (mainstream) political options.
The Tories are a mess and sooner or later will turn on Theresa May, it's part of their DNA to destroy their own who come up short...
Labour have somehow pulled together better than anyone could possibly have envisaged 12-18 months ago, but have train wrecks like Dianne Abbott in their ranks...
the Lib Dems sacrificed their soul in the lust for power (sharing) with Cameron and are nigh on finished and even north of the border, the SNP who looked invincible 12/18 months ago are wobbling under a misguided, almost demonic leadership hellbent on independence.

And having typed this, it just re-affirms in my mind, I was right to vote Green.

They're a brand/cult with little content/ability that have been fostered by the msm. Now that the media are rightly asking a few questions (but still taking it easy on them) their lack of ability is apparent.

They're a cult and they're voted for, in the main through some sort of loyalty. I know a woman who was told by her mother that her grandparents would 'turn in their graves' if she didn't vote Tory at the last election.

Thing is though Orchard, most votes are for your own favourite cult,I agree that MSM has helped them a lot,but my view is that the Mail,s*n etc attract their readers because they print the things they want to hear,I doubt they convert anybody except the most gullible and a lot of people, certainly younger viters have turned away from newspapers, main news bulletins to gain information,we seem to have become more Americanized in that its more to do with personality than policy in this country

I think you're underestimating the potential effect of media somewhat mate.
I suppose it does work both ways, but I'm personally appalled by recourse to superstitious threats as a means of influence.

Im more concerned about the likes of channel 5 and it poverty porn entertainment that the mail running headlines of muslims cause penis cancer, but its all a matter of opinion in regards to how much influence a right wing media has on peoples voting choice

I think it's all fairly bad, irrespective of political bent.
