May's Care policy deliberately targeted her own voters.

Corbyn's focus on foreign policy today highlighted that most sane people in politics have recognized, openly stated, given in evidence and cited as findings of fact for at least the last ten years. In fact its notable that almost all of the attacks on him since he made that speech didn't actually disagree with anything he said in it. As for "he didn't need to bring it up", it is a debate that has needed to be had since the middle of 2002.

Indeed. But not a week or so before an election. A few days after kids had been blown to bits in Manchester. He played to his own, long held, agenda, but he didnt need to.

Aint saying he is wrong, as the Yougov poll backs up, (but it was a daft question anyrate), I was saying it was a stupid battle to choose.

But in this election campaign, Corbyn has given licence to his opponents to pick him apart about what he didnt actually really say. Like I said, its his hobby horse, has been for years apparently, and however noble that may be, he has been stupid giving them a dead easy open goal. Guess the Daily Mail headline tomorrow.

Ergo. Stupid.

They don't need licence to pick him apart about what he didn't actually really say - after all, they have spent almost every day since 1st August 2015 doing that.

Maybe.

So why feed the fire?

I honestly think he has more than a valid point. And he has been on this soapbox for ages, (thanks wiki), I just struggle to see what exactly he thought could be gained, in an election battle, by reverting to type.

Or maybe thats the appeal.

That Yougov poll was never ever going to be anything but the result it got. Not with the question it asked.

Its cloud cuckoo land to think that terrorism of any sort, like ever, is never related to the actions, perceived or otherwise, of the victim state.

I was astonished 34% said No, or Dont Know.

He could have said " I love rainbows " and they would attack him for it.

It could well be.

It could even be him nicking Crosby's dead cat and throwing it into the room, knowing that he would get an outraged and largely hypocritical response. Now that really would be parking his tanks on the Tory lawn.

Dont get the Crosby cat reference.

But agree with the general gist of your post.

But I have seen some of the Neil interview now. Like I suspected, nothing really, of any consequence, was actually delivered. "Corbyn supports nuclear disarming" shocker.

I dont even think the apparent contradiction with his manifesto proposing Trident renewal is actually a contradiction, even though it looks like it should be. Having a nuclear deterrent isnt actually the same as saying you would rather not need one.

Kind of where I am Hibs.
I do wonder if their is such toxicity around the Brexit situation that they are both doing their damndest to scupper their chances.

The cost of care is an interesting one as, depending on how drafted, surely the parents can transfer the house to children, pay market rent to remain living there, and then it drops out of the estate for IHT purposes after 7 years, so unless a different and conflicting set of rules were brought in, it's avoidable anyway surely?

Just thinking out loud here.

Not seen the interviews but I am a avid watcher of the daily politics (sad I know)
But I wouldn't take any interview by Neil as serious he's a egotistical idiot who is a terrible interviewer.

Drawing on my past life here, but even is rent is paid, still a GWR? Will bend to your knowledge anyrate.

On that issue, Care, its a 15 year "problem". A few gilt issues will solve it.

Its a non issue imo.

If market rent is actually physically paid and there are no covenants guaranteeing life tenancy or occupancy, not sure it's a problem anyway if you can get the parents to move out for a little while - has to be given absolutely and that's end of as far as I'm aware, becomes a PET.
Lease it to the parents, with a short-hold assured every 6 months at market rate and I'm pretty sure it would be defensible.
The break between the gifting and re-occupying could make life interesting, lease it to a mate perhaps? Over-thinking here probably.
Anyway, as you say, baby-boomers shuffle of the mortal coil, job done.

One of the chief Tory strategists is an Australian called Lynton Crosby, and he is associated with a theory that says you should (metaphorically) throw a dead cat into any debate that you don't want to have, in the hope that everyone talks about the dead cat and not about whatever it is you don't want to talk about.

It is probably what they were trying to do with the mention of ending the hunting ban, or that nonsense over ending the ban on ivory imports.

He wasn't choosing a battle. He was commenting in good faith on a matter in hand. He could have joined the chorus of "We will not be bowed" and "Democracy will prevail," I suppose, chasing the votes in a GE.

Instead, he chose to speak honestly and constructively, even though he knew he was risking blowing all his recent political momentum in so doing.

I don't really get your point, Roydo. It's as if you're being deliberately churlish. Are you allergic to honest politicians or summat?
