Not saying there isnt an issue with foxes mate, but sure to god it can be done more humanly than tracking down an animal and have a pack of dogs tear it limb from limb.

Its a fair wider, rural issue than that mate.

It might offend a city dwellers sensibilities, but nature is brutal. I aint going to defend it, cos I have never done it. But farmers and folk who go, will swear blind its a proven, effective, method of controlling what is essentially, a pest.

Lamping can be quite effective too. But if you want to take a shotgun into the fields at 2.00 am in the morning on a wing and a prayer you might track one down, then go ahead.

Hunting dogs are trained to to it for you. Like we train sheep dogs to herd sheep.

I may be a city dweller now mate, but i lived in the countryside for 30 years before moving here. And strangley i see more foxes in my back garden here in london that I did in the countryside, and no that isnt because of the fox hunting!

As i said I just there can and must be a more humane way thats all.

But its also happened for hundreds of years. People don't complain when they eat a kebab on a Saturday when the odds are its halal lamb and it's had its throat slit and hung, this happens on a massive scale compared to the odd fox in it's natural habitat getting killed.

Slavery happended for hundreds of years too and that didnt make it right. The tradition and its been done for hundreds of years argument is a stupid one.
Halal meat? sorry but that has a bit of racist undertones, no need to bring that type of meat into it, could have made your point without saying that.

I completely disagree with fox hunting, and those countryside tweed folk are pretty hateable. However, it is such a minor issue it probably won't make much difference when voting. It certainly wouldn't change my vote. Who is going to decide to not vote on socioeconomic reasons, but instead vote based on fox welfare?

Also, I don't think May actually wanted it to be a major policy discussion. However, as the article says, the issue raises itself if the Tories get a big majority because then the law is more likely to be repealed. So it is actually a more of an issue now.

haha! There are probably more grey urban foxes in Bristol than there are in the fields round me!

Not that arsed about it either way, points I was making is that, hunting, aint the stereotype activity that a lot of folk think it is, and that it was a ridiculous issue to raise.

Like @samsonthedog1 has confirmed, those that want to do it, still do anyrate.

More humane? If you lived 30 years in the countryside, then letting nature take care of nature, is humane/easier.

A few years ago, with rats, used rat poison to kill them. Horrid death. Now have 2 barn cats. Wiped the lot out in a few months. (keep chickens, hence rats like food)

Not that different really.

But, again, light years away from being the hot political issue facing the UK.

Exactly. It is a zero point winner, but possible loser.

Utterly daft to raise it.

To be fair when I lived in Ireland I went fox hunting 30-40 times and we only ever 'caught' a few foxes. But the damage they do on a daily basis to rural farms is terrible.
I can understand why people don't like it, but its nowhere near as bad as people make out
Agree to a point, the meat industry hasn far crueller practices..it's just a horrible weird hobby that has no place in our society

Complete nonsense that, it's a comment on the manner in which the meat is prepared.

You mean in the society you, presumably live in?

I honestly get why folk dont like it, I do really, but it isnt a "hobby". Its a well known and established method of pest control. I get the red jacket, braying connotations, honestly I do, but the reality, is just nothing like that.

As an aside, I am currently looking at a field at the end of my garden, which is empty. Last week it had dozens on lambs gambling about, having a lovely time.

Where do reckon they are now?

But it was stupid for May to make an issue about it. No one cares, cos it still goes on. Might have well made a policy on how often you should walk the dog.

Surely if it wasn't a hobby people wouldn't be bothered about a pest control method being banned?

And yes, those lambs were V tasty

Halal always comes up doesn't it!

This pig has lived a life of misery, still wanna eat it?

..'yes please!'

This pig was killed under religious practices that you prob don't understand..

..'evil! Poor Peppa pig'

Neil I hope @Bungle can see your excellent contributions in this forum and see you in a better light
