The Labour party aren't going to win though

Two years ago, on this very forum, people had their heads in the sand and ignored anyone who said Ed Milliband was a weak leader and wasn't going to get elected. The same thing is happening again here, in that there is a majority of posters here, who totally refuse to acknowledge that there is a problem with the party and it's not just something dreamed up by the right-wing press.

For sure, the press are taking advantage of the situation and sticking the boot in, but until people in all parts of the party realise there's a problem, and get together to try and find a way of appealing to the people who vote in areas which actually make a difference to the make up of parliament, as opposed to preaching to the converted, then, until the Tories make a massive screw up ( which obviously they will one day ), we're in trouble.

I don't disagree with anything you typed mate, but the vast majority of people who vote in marginals aren't affected. People might make the right noises about inequalities and poverty brought about the government, but when push comes to shove, most people will vote for what's best for them, and their families, so you have to find a way to appeal to them. Once you've got them voting for you and you're in power, then you can fix what's wrong, but you can't fix it if you're on the outside.

?????

Anyone that thinks the average man or woman gives a rats arse about the majority of those things is living in dreamland !
I mean, fox hunting and badger culling, come on, whoever came up with that list is on a different planet.

Of the ones where Corbyn and May differ the following might be important in making swing voters vote Labour or Tory :-

  • Bedroom Tax
  • Top rate of tax
  • Welfare
  • Trident and
  • VAT
Most of the rest come under the heading "Preaching to the converted".

Have been corbyn s. Biggest critic on here don't like the people he surrounds himself with or share. Some of his views.
Vote out in brexit, but polling day i am voting labour, why?
We'll just look at this government , borrowed more money dispite austity, u turn every other week , NHS worries the life out of me, and when i ask myself what they have done to make my life any better i can't think of a thing.
They are going to win the election , but the thought of them being let lose and me not doing my bit even if it's a wasted vote in the long run dosn't sit well, at least i can say they aren't doing it in my name.

Everyone was doing it, we were just better at it than everyone else........

Perhaps. I'm slightly troubled by your pride in it, though. And I still can't reconcile your pretty dim initial comment about bullying nations with anything approaching reality.

That's mindless nationalism for you, though...

No, not at all. But I'd like to hear from you what you believe, rather than just slagging off labour. So if you are a Tory say tell us why and what policies you particularly believe in and why. Not trying to get at you. Just genuinely interested. And I accept lots of lefties are also sniping on here coming out with Tories are evil and other simplistic nonesense

Stop being so bloody nosey asking which politician party people support on a general election thread would you?

I do get that, but the Iraq war, gay rights, tuition fees, bankers tax etc. are seen as representative of a greater ideology by most.

I see how Corbyn's IRA/Hezbollah comments are concerning for some. But Theresa May's shared a past with Boris and Cameron who'd sit round discussing Mandela the terrorist before smashing up some poor get's restaurant just because they hate the working class or something.

As usual, this election will be a media pillow fight with about 90% of folk decided already. C'est La Vie

Very true that, but, the fact that most people don't pay tax at top rate is a good reason for them to vote for someone who says they're going to extend it. If it raises taxes, but it's not coming from their pocket, then people will like the sound of it. If, as seems likely, all parties are, unofficially at least, acknowledging that taxes need to rise, then your average punter in the street would rather see it raised from people better off than them as opposed to on VAT. Plenty of arl arses remember VAT being increased to 17.5% in the early 90's, and it was dropped to 15% in something like 2007 or 2008, before being put back up a few years later, so it's not unheard of.

I'd agree that most people aren't that arsed about Trident, but enough probably are to make a difference here and there

To be honest, I doubt anyone who might change their vote is desperately worried about either Iraq or Corbyn's past dealings with the odd terrorist. They're much more worried about the cash in their pocket.
