Any transfer window were we don't lose a top player is a good window. The most important thing has always been to hold on to Fellaini, Baines, etc.

I'm happy we signed Stone but why do it on the last day of the January window? The january window imo is for strengthening your squad to push on for the second half of the campaign. Stone is one for the future, which is great, but shouldn't these types of deals be the focus of the summer when we have a bit more time? And maybe we would have missed out on this particular youngster if Wigan bought him, but there are plenty of quality players in the lower leagues that we could invest in instead.

I don't see him making a contribution this season, so I don't see why this is a priority in January at all.

Wigan had a bid for him accepted earlier today, it was now or never for us then

Well yeah, there would obviously be money left over because we've got money to spend anyway.

£30m for Fellaini on top of the £7m or so we've got. £15m for Negredo, £8m for Fer. Leaves £17m left over.

And before some smart arse jumps in with 'IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN LAD', it's just a what if.

They have probably had to act to stop him going elsewhere. That doesn't mean he is / was our priority

Fair enough but like I said there are so many bright young prospects out there. Given our current predicament, it doesn't seem wise to think beyond the next season or 2 until the summer. Maybe we would have missed out on Stone, but we could have signed someone else in the summer.

Our club is not very good at handling transfers in a timely manner, I just don't see why they should devote resources to getting this done.
