Although the season after wasnt too bad. loads of comprehensive wins. Beating them at anfield and having the game of the season in a 4-4 with leeds at Goodison. Think we lost the last game of the season against boronand dropped about four places down the table though.

98/99 was a boss little team.

Barmby, Dacourt, Materazzi, Campbell, Jeffers, Ball, Hutchison and Unsworth (before he lost his ability to run lol ).

The fact we ended up down there was mystifying to be honest. Same as the fact we were able to sell Ferguson, and not replace him for about 4 months. Shows how bad Walter Smith actually was though.

This team is so similar. Sell Lukaku, and don't replace him, with firepower, we'd be far better.

1998/99 was poor overall but we did play some decent stuff towards the end of the season like giving Newcastle a good beating on their own ground, wiping the floor with Charlton in that relegation 6 pointer and that utter demolition of West Ham in our last home game.

In fact we took that late season momentum we'd built up into the next season as we started off 1999/2000 really well and spent the rest of 1999 comfortably in the top 6.

Today’s is much better but It shouldn’t even be a question. If you compare the money spent on these squads, in comparative terms to the markets at the time then Silva has a Man City squad. Imagine Silva with Smiths team.

Bakayoko, Nyarko, Linderoth - Smith bought spectacular tosh and made them spectacularly tosher. Anyman who signs Peter Degn is either an awful football man or on the take.
