£165,600,000 versus £83,000,000 The real reason the derby is uncompetitive

Not for a moment saying this is the sole or even the main reason for our dreadful record against them... but just once it would be nice to go into a derby without injuries to key 1st choice players, and see what happens.

Read somewhere the other day that it's been 7.5yrs since the last time it happened.

I'd like one day not to go into the Derby as underdogs. Like it or not we are nowhere near the title chasing bunch above us, and getting results against them will always need us to play above ourselves. The correlation between monies spent and league position is unavoidable, Leicester being an exception that proves the rule.
We have two pathways as I see it one is to grow the club bringing through and buying in low cost youngsters and bargain buys seeded with the occasional quality player. Or we radically increase our spend to bring quality and depth to our squad and put together a side with a genuine chance to win the title. Then one day we can go into the big games reasonably confident that if we play our game we should win, if we play above ourselves we'll batter them.
Or we could just buy a fat old traitor to shout at the ref. , yeah that'll sort it.

That last sentence sums it up,mate, noticed yesterday, when one of theirs was injured there was 4/5 of them talking to the ref, not one Everton player within yards of him,
The last time we had a good side, the likes of Sharpie were always in the ref's ear,
Perhaps that would be a good reason to get Rooney back, and change the mentality.
Did not see one appeal for the handball at baines free kick either. that's the difference. Only time this season i have seen it was Morgan at stoke to get us the goal that was disallowed back.

No mate. We contrive to throw the game every single time we appear to be making progress.

Sorry mate but don't agree at all. 18 years is a long time. Chronic bottling and mental weakness is at the heart of the problem and it's no surprise when tonnes of those in power at the club see 7th as superb.

For now - I'd take 2 wins in 5.. and 3 losses (6 points from 5 games) - if only because it would be a great improvement but we're not even close to getting that sort of return.

Why not both? Regardless of the Pogba, Costa and De Bruyne the biggest spending clubs all supplement that with extensive scouting and purchasing of much cheaper young prospects whose transfers don't make the back pages.

We lack big game players and have for a while. No control in midfield which puts added pressure on the defence. We rarely take the lead in big games home or away. You get what you pay for. We are competing with teams who have internationals from the top countries yet we have players who cannot get a game for the worst England team for decades.

Wait, you're saying their team is better than ours because they're paid more?

That starting lineup of theirs?

Wow

Their starting line up was better though. We had a lot of kids in there who don't look ready and they had seasoned pros in every position.

It seems to be a mental block. They think they're better than us, and we think they're better than us.
Lesser teams go to the pit and win, because they believe they can.

Lesser teams win because Liverpool players and their fans aren't as motivated in those games.

When they play against us every one of their players is at it because it's a huge game. That's why the likes of Swansea sneak a win in a subdued atmosphere.

Football's not paid on paper, or on paper bills. That's why Leicester won the league, that's why Wales for further than teams like Spain in the euro's, that's why the FA Cup sees giant killings, it's all about the game on the day.

Those figures show why we shouldn't win every single time, it doesn't show that we should never beat them, our record is better against teams like city and Chelsea who have much better teams

So you agree with me then?
