£165,600,000 versus £83,000,000 The real reason the derby is uncompetitive

If we wanted to be a big club we'd have rooted out the mentally weak dross years ago. But the board haven't permitted any manager to sign enough quality to help us compete. Because they have no ambition and see 7th as superb.

You cant just "be" a big club. We ended up being as big as we were able to be at the time. Your alternative plan that they should have used doesnt seem to have any foundation behind it?

Build Kings dock. Get our new ground and benefit from its revenues. Sell to wealthy backer at the time when big shots were looking to buy. For someone who looked 24/7 he sure looked in the wrong places. Either that or he's a liar and control freak who had no intention of selling.

He sold so many players. He sold our training ground. He let our ground come into serious disrepair. He just couldn't let go. Asset stripper extraordinaire.

The simple truth is Liverpool play the game while we play the occasion. An example being Barkley in the last year could easily have had two reds in derbies through making over the top challenges he wouldn't normal make, where as 'they' treat it like any other game.

The gulf in transfer spending and salary spending etc is just too big.

Everton trying to compete with the RS is a bit like Grimsby trying to compete with Everton.

He's literally a fraud mate. I could contribute more than him with a couple of weeks training n I'm long retired! How he's an actual international just annoys me when you consider the players that could n should be picked ahead of him. I wouldn't have him in the Irish team ahead of Jmac and Glenn Whelan put it that way

Mate you're entitled to your opinion il be honest I don't watch enough of them to pinpoint to you exactly what it is he's good at but if enough of them think he's decent, plus the international set up he can't be that bad. The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle ha

Maybe up until a few years ago but since Suarez who have they signed that hand on heart we couldn't afford or pay the wages they have to right now? They got Coutihno for 8 mill from Inter who didn't really rate him, Lallana they paid what about 20/2/ million for, we spent more then that on Bolasie, Firmihnio granted possibly may not have come to us as in all likelihood given his age and where he's from he's probably never heard of us. Mane, we probably could have got him from Saints and paid what they did for him in fact we probably should have been completing with them for him.

Wouldn't have happened he fell out with Koeman , big time. (Mane I mean by the way)

No it's not, it's the 7th best team in the league trying to compete with the 5th or 6th best. There is no excuse for not winning any Derby in the last 8 years, none.

I don't know about 8 years mate, apart from the previous 2, we were up there as the best of the rest which is kind of where we sit right now but with the means and desire to actually push on this time. 8 years ago they had Mascharano, Alonso, Gerrard, Torres, Carragher. I know they had 2 of them come up through their ranks but they paid equivalent wages to them that another top team would have that we couldn't compete with at that time. In contrast we had Fellaini, Neville, Distin, Rodwell, Baines, Lescott, Cahill, Yakubu. You can't honestly tell me that was a fair match up

Different owner, manager, coaches, players and yet some people insist on putting it down to mentality.

Seems weird to me but hey if it makes you feel better, go for it

I didn't know that, but you get what I mean mate. Apart from a personal spat if we'd have gone for another profile manager at the time that he didn't hate like the Seville manager then we could well have been in with a shout of competing for their best player. I mean by we had the resources to go for the deal

In 09 we went into a triple header against them a league game at Anfield then a cup game at Anfield (followed by a Goodison replay). They were a team that had been in 2 ECL finals in the last 4 years and were in a title challenge. In the league game at Anfield we went toe to toe with them had a blatant pen turned down before Gerrard hit a Worley but then didn't give up and fought back for 1-1. Injury ravaged, we took a mauling at Anfield but held firm for another 1-1. We then went to Goodison and played better than them and deserved to win. Three games against probably the best Liverpool side of the prem era and we stood up in all three. We didn't win all of them but we showed pride, guts, we weren't afraid to play, and we matched them.

It is possible when you don't have a team of spineless cowards.

I'm not doubting the lack of fight in some of our team but the point is it's still part of an 18 year period we haven't won there. Regardless of how close we were to actually winning we didn't win. And yes that period probably was the start of us getting stronger and establishing ourselves as a top 5/7 team and closing the gap with them. In part done with money ball tactics of Moyes and an increase in the tv money at the time. But it still doesn't change the fact that probably up until about a year ago they've competed on a completely different level to us financially

The amount of crap players the RS have signed for big money is laughable in the last ten years. Take the witch doctor n your man from the favelas' out of their team n they're really average in my opinion. We just played the occasion as @blue61 said instead of treating it as we would hull etc
