If the rumours are true about this Roma striker, then I am lost for words. How are we signing another striker and probably a winger in Dibling before we sign a right back?

Obviously we have to try and sign the highest quality players possible. They won't all come off but that's pretty normal anyway

Sorry, I meant as in the main market. There have been a few deals clearly but for example, we have probably half a dozen who will be loaned out but don’t think any have gone yet.

You say that, but how many years has a top right winger been on the shopping list? How many years has a replacement for Coleman been on the shopping list?
Going for top players is all well and good, but you have to sign one eventually. We’ve had stop-gaps in those positions for years. At what point does the reality of that lead you to think we are over optimistic and aiming too high?
Settling for a mediocre specialist would have been better than cycling through the dross every year.

It doesn’t mean we still can’t upgrade if a top player becomes feasible, but at least we would have a bit of competently in those area while we wait.

What gets me is what’s happened to Moyes much vaunted ability to pluck unknowns out of the lower leagues / abroad for peanuts etc?

tbf to him, the cream of his previous crop, the Cahills, Artetas, Fellanis, Baines Pinaars etc were all CL quality imo, do they not exist anymore, has moyes got a bit lazy / conscious he’s only got 2 years left?……. Barry is possibly a Fellani equivalent in that he wasn’t cheap cheap but will hopefully at least double in value, but you would think there are sub £20m players out there waiting for the opportunities to shine.

I loved those days - it all seemed much simpler some how. I think now, in order to compete in this league, you need players ahead of that level however, Barry and aznou have a fair bit to prove

We don’t live in isolation, it’s a problem position because clubs know we’re in desperate need, therefore why not throw an extra 5 or 10 mill on the asking price like Southampton and others have tried to do.

This is the first year in 3 or 4 that we have actually been able to spend proper money

Let’s wait and see, we either sign quality and it was not worth all the wet sheets or we go average and y’all peed off
