Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Well there's been a few developments over the last few days regarding my trip to the Channel isles. Due to the weather forecast for the channel crossing, the only window they have for the crossing is Thursday (tomorrow). Plus, we've discovered that there are no direct flights from Newquay to anywhere in the Islands. The routes have not been taken up by any alternative airline since Flybe went bust. So I'm now going to travel with their daughter Sam, and the two Norfolk terriors, Maisie and Chelsea. The upshot is that there won't really be room for all of us to sleep on the boat. not comfortably anyway, so I'll need to stay in a hotel. I'm actually fine with this as I've become accustomed to my comforts.

Sam arrived back in Cornwall yesterday and we're going to get the ferry from Poole to Guernsey on Sunday morning, so I could be in the middle of the English Channel when we're fighting for our Premier survival. The plan is to spend 3 days in Guernsey, and then sail the boat over to jersey on Wednesday and spend 4 days there, returning the following Sunday. I'm really looking forward to it.

I've also been speaking to my mate about joining him and my other mate in Edinburgh at the end of June for a couple of days to attend Musselburgh races. I'll then travel back with them to Liverpool for a few days to catch up with other mates and family. I can fly to Edinburgh from Newquay and get a return from Manchester. The hotels in Edinburgh are a bit pricey so I'm a bit scared this will put them off.
I had a great 10 years working in Jersey, still a great island to travel around but I’m hearing it’s changed a lot since my days there 80-90, and it’s expensive but you will enjoy it mate

A few Speke lads still there,Tony Phillips use to drink in the fox
Carl Grey, Mick Hayes all good lads

Is Mick any relation to John Hayes?

Have a brilliant time Fred!

Cal used to always buy stuff that needed assembling, but I just can't be arsed with it. So Cal would always shame me into it by starting it first, knowing that I would have to take over. Usually the first I knew about it was when when I heard banging then swearing from the next room.

Used to hate those things. If there was something you could do back to front I invariably did, and would often have to dismantle the whole thing and start again.lol
Have I ever posted to say that doesn't happen here ? They are made for them to make money not for you to find easy .

Tell me about it.

The worst time was when Cal bought one of these "easy assemble" one person tents to use at the beach. I can sit in the sun all day but Cal liked a bit of shade. We were at Holywell Beach in North Cornwall (the one they always use in Poldark) and it's a fair walk to the beach over sand dunes from the car park. I made Cal carry the tent herself because I was already carrying two folding chairs, a beach mat, two large beach towels, and 2 beach bags full of various garments (I told you Cal doesn't travel lightly). That was my first mistake of the day. My second was to go for a swim whilst Cal was attempting to assemble the "easy assemble" tent. My third was to laugh when I came back from the swim seeing that she was in a right mess with her attempts to assemble said tent. My fourth mistake was not realising that her frustration had developed into a full scale cob on, and that anger was now directed at me. It took about 4 hours of apologising before she calmed down.

In the meantime I also attempted to assemble this thing but just couldn't work it out. The instructions were next to useless and it didn't help that they kept blowing away in the wind and I was chasing it all over the place. When the tide is out, which it was that day, this beach goes on forever. To top it all, when we came to pack it away the pieces wouldn't all fit into the bloody bag that came with it. We were able to have a good laugh about it afterwards, the fact that I couldn't assemble it either probably helped in that regard. When we returned home the tent went into the garage, never to be seen again until we had a sort out about 3 years later. lol
Shame we have no video of that Fred.
