Demba Ba

Sky do get things wrong fairly often, but i can't see this not being correct to be honest.. Not as if it's a surprise either.

There's an 'update' on LCAB's site guys, the jist is that Ba came to us saying give me 70k and i'll sign, and we didnt want to pay that much.

Never in the world would i give him 70k p/w.

Read that. Glad we said no. There are better strikers out there, though I'm struggling to come up with a realistic target that we can also afford, except for Shane Long.

I still don't feel too gutted by this.

He came from an OK (not great German team), nearly went to Stoke, went to West Ham, and chose Newcastle over us.
I'm fine without him.

However, my only negative of this is the excitement of signing a new player. I've almost forgotton what it's like to feel excited about a new player, especially a new striker.

I wonder if we will ever feel that again.

After seeing a myriad of different opinions on the matter, he's my take, as Demba Ba's self proclaimed number 1 fan, and a (usually) pessimistic Evertonian.

1.) Just because he didn't sign for us does not make him crap. He's a quality striker, and all things considered, better than anything we offer now.

2.) £50K a week was a good amount for someone of his calibre, contrary to what a lot of you were saying. £70K however, which is seemingly what Newcastle offered and he wanted us to match, was not. Moyes was quite right to turn him down after that, because he's not worth it.

3.) However horrendous his agent fees were he seemingly did not require a transfer fee. So in terms of cash up front, Newcastle have themselves a good deal. You just have to get over the scumbaggery of the agents' paydays.

4.) This is the point that's annoying me most. I've seen people saying "Oh well, Saha, Beckford and Anichebe will have to do", "Beckford's will have a lot of weight on his shoulders next season" etc etc. For the sake of [Poor language removed], it is June. There's what? 10 weeks left in the window? 11 weeks? Get a grip.

5.) If I see another "he's just after a payday" judgemental post I'm going to headbutt my monitor. Seemingly they offered him 40% more a week than we did. Footballers have a very transient career with no real safety net. Who here would turn down a 40% pay rise? As for the few I've seen saying words to the effect of "I wouldn't want a mercenary wearing the number 9"... well ffs. Do you think any of our strikeforce are any different? Saha's been getting £60K a week the past year to sit at home injured. Yet again, get a grip. It's a job.

Anyway, he's good, I'd have loved him to sign for us... but £70K a week is too much. It would unsettle our wage structure, because loyal players would feel undervalued. Moyes was completely right. Demba was well within his rights, too. Newcastle are used to paying over the odds, so let them do so once again.

Peace.

We will not sign a new striker, Yakubu will return 12 years older and 4 stone heavier and be classed as LIKE A NEW SIGNING !!!

Oh dear its going to be a long summer !!!!

Valid points RFUS the doom and gloom merchants are out in force already still plenty of time to sign players.

I have always said it. He's a mercenary and has no soul. He sells out to the highest bidder and does not care where he plays at. Happy he did not sign for us - he would have left for another team in a year anyway. Get someone better.
