PICKFORD

“It was a freak one, really. It had hit the bar twice and I tried to flick it over. The ball spun and as I tried to flick it over, my hand hit the bar. It’s unfortunate but I am strong mentally.

“I just want to say sorry to the Everton fans. I think you could see our progression as a group, the chances we created and the football we played. That’s a positive but what can I do? There is always a case as a goalkeeper if you make an error it will lead to a goal. Unfortunately, it has been me today but I will be ready for Newcastle on Wednesday. We know we held our own against a good Liverpool side for 96 minutes. I will say sorry to the Everton fans again because I know how much it means to them. As players, we know how much it means to us. You make mistakes every now and again. It’s not something you can learn and train and get better from. It’s just a freak incident.”

Klopp also apologised to Silva.

EDIT: Silva said Klopp didn't.

Need a striker to put away our chances but, traditional lucky fluke for them aside, something has changed about our team.

That is THE best Anfield performance we've put in in my lifetime, including when we have actually won there like the Kanchelskis derby. We usually approach these games like we are second best - we didn't today. If we do put in a good performance it is usually by forgetting to play and just outfighting them - today we fought them and played good football. Their fans will act up and act like we are still a laughing stock but they will be shocked at how we played today.

We have a quality in our team that we haven't had since we used to win things. We have created more chances at Old Trafford, Anfield, Stamford Bridge and the Emirates than I can ever remember. Yes, we need to find a way to be more clinical but things are really starting to change. This result won't affect the team because they are the toughest we've had in a long time. We haven't bottled it against a poor Liverpool team - they would be running away with the title if they weren't up against the best team the Premier League has ever seen in Man City, and we were the better team.

Future's looking bright imo.

Inappropriate Language
The bit I didn't understand was Silva saying we would show no fear which we did and more than matched them. Then we bottled it at the end. They were [Poor language removed] after playing in mid week and were there for the taking. Instead of pushing on we were time wasting and happy to settle for a draw.

We lost to a flukey goal because of our mentality. We dropped off when we should of been pushing for a winner. We lose because Pickford is terrified of conceding a corner instead of pushing it over and trusting his team mates to defend a corner.

We have played well against the top teams but will continue to get [Poor language removed] all until we believe in ourselves.

We didn't bottle it. We just aren't clinical enough. It's a real problem that the players need to solve, because the tactics are working to the point that we are creating those chances.

We were really good today. They've got freakishly lucky because that's what the Reds do.

Tonight also highlighted that Coleman & Walcott need better like-for-likes next season, as much as it pains me to say in Coleman's case. Our right hand side is our achilles heel.

Coleman defended really really well.

Walcott played well as well and Robertson had no joy until he went off, but Lookman did give us more going forward.

We missed 2 absolute sitters mate, we go 2 -0 up, it's a different game.

I agree, it's all about scoring when you're on top, and that's up to the players, they have to make sure of the chances

Silva bottled it at the end but we were punch for punch as good as them for much of the game, untill we decided a draw was good enough and surrendered to them in the dying minutes.
