Plays almost as a second striker at times. This is what I missed about McCarthy- it wasn't that he got into the box a lot, but he was everywhere else on the field. He linked play up simply by being everywhere on the pitch, so regardless of his shortcomings, he was important.
Dude, no he wasn't. Maybe 3 years ago McCarthy played that way. He was so bad when he came back from injury because he would NOT get forward. He's a defensive middy.

Davies is a box to box guy. Back and forth. Is the ONLY one in the team that can really run with the ball. He's the one who should play every game next to Gana. The only other thing we have close is Klaassen and well, we know he isn't playing. But until we find our own Doucoure, Davies should be in there every game.

But man, if Gana or Davies goes down, bad things will happen.

They won't have that mate

It's obvious the players love him, some are thriving under him

True that, I mean, I know all players say good things about managers in public, but Walcott chose to work with Allardyce.
Still, it's good to see that Sam trusts Davies' ability and saw a player out of form who needed a bit of man management.

I was referring to the Roberto era. And yes, we most definitely needed Davies and Walcott to pick up the slack in the ball carrying department.

ok fair point

Wasnt being sarky mate, and the state we were in when he pitched up, I was one who said we should hold our nose and accept the mess.

But his England gig was not the reason we hired him, lets be honest.

And for the record, I hoped he would actually disprove the steryotype of himself. Maybe he will, but not sure he will.

I still don’t think he is anywhere near as good as he was when he first came into the team, more worryingly he doesn’t even have to be and he is still better than some of the others.

His energy and the pressing makes a massive difference, he’s also calmed down a bit too, not worried he’s gonna get sent off every game now.

His energy is brilliant and that alone is an upgrade on others in the squad. The quality is really lacking though, that will be shown up away from home and against the top 6 sides.
