He is the only central midfielder that gets up the field quickly (similar to Jmac). We need someone to do that job if we want to win consistently as our striker gets isolated and we have no one supporting him.
 
Good game from him, and improvement. When you have Gana and Snides in there, Gana is reluctant to go forward, and lacks a good finish(though a great strike today). Davies adds a different element, because despite what he lacks, he gets forward quickly, gets into the box quickly, and can finish. You see him forward in the box when almost none of our other midfielders would.

Plays almost as a second striker at times. This is what I missed about McCarthy- it wasn't that he got into the box a lot, but he was everywhere else on the field. He linked play up simply by being everywhere on the pitch, so regardless of his shortcomings, he was important.
