Everton reply to Times investigation and it's two no's

It's the sort of thing that you'd think the club would have been prepared for, given the prominence of this story.

Hopefully it's just a case of them needing to clarify behind the scenes, because no matter how dismissive we as fans may be of the press, the silence will soon become deafening.
The story only broke about 2 weeks ago, and I'm sure in the first week, the expectation was that it was a largely isolated incident.

Remember this was responding to two simple straight questions. It asked:

have you got anyone to sign an NDA related to sexual assault

Have you paid out anyone in compensation in relation to sexual assault.

Thirteen Premier League teams have firmly answered this.

Opinions differ, mine is if you can answer, you do - ideally no. Alternatively, if we have done it, get the poison out and move on.

Did they only ask Everton or all clubs?

Ha ha, no definitely not. Been on the other side too long for that. It's published in The Times this morning. Just find it concerning, albeit they will have called EFC at 5pm last night. But we should have had a response ready and know.

How do you know for sure ? Ive worked in a Press Office and its a kamikaze time to circulate a general Press Enquiry for going to press the next morning. Ive read an article in my Times Online and it doesn't mention Everton ? Could you post a link ta ....just in case Ive missed it.

Can't post a link but it's in the Crewe story.

Right. Heres the extract from the piece on Crewe.......Ive highlighted us. We replied NO to both questions. Not the same as "no reply".

The Times
asked all Premier League clubs bar Chelsea the following questions yesterday:

1. Has your club made any payments to former players as compensation for alleged sexual abuse by people employed by or affiliated to the club?

2. Has your club made any confidentiality agreements with former players that forbid them from talking publicly about alleged sexual abuse they may have suffered?

We received the following responses:

Arsenal No to both
Bournemouth No reply
Burnley No comment
Crystal Palace The answer to both questions is no. Please note we are able to answer categorically for the period since 2010 when CPFC 2010 took over the club. We have no knowledge of this happening under previous ownership, or reason to suspect it ever happened, but cannot answer on behalf of previous owners.
Everton No and no
Hull City
No and no
Leicester City No reply
Liverpool No and no
Manchester City Not to our knowledge on either question.
Manchester United No reply
Middlesbrough The club have no knowledge of any such payments being made or of any confidentiality agreements relating to such matters.
Stoke City No reply
Southampton Southampton would like to confirm that we have contacted Hampshire Police following information supplied to us in relation to historical child abuse within football. Hampshire Police and Southampton Football Club are committed to working together to investigate any historical allegations that may be brought to light in the Hampshire area.

West Ham United Categorically no

....Harry?

Hi all, I'm an occasional poster but just reading today's Times and I'm concerned we have not replied to their two core questions - have we paid anyone off or got players to sign non disclosure agreements for potential sexual assault cases. As someone who's worked in PR for 20 years, you would have an answer ready for this. Admittedly we are one of 7 clubs inc. MU but the scum, Spurs, City, WH have all strongly said no. We've not replied. Just wondered your thoughts - as fans we should know.

Not sure where @Harry73 got his info from, but @Jacob has posted an article showing that we clearly DID answer NO to both questions.
