Landon Donovan

And it always makes me laugh when people are flat out dismissed at a drop of a hat or based on what they've heard.

I'm not gonna oversell Donovan. Don't have to. He's easily one of the best players this country has produced in the last 20 years.

His time at Leverkusen sucked. He wasn't ready (something he quickly admits to) and didn't settle in. The Bayern Munich training was all it was. Training.

But I will tell you right now and this is coming from someone who has watched Donovan numerous times in person much less on TV. The guy can help us if he's played in the right position. He's done his best work for the USMNT up front as a supporting striker just off the big man...kinda like Cahill.

Someone asked, "Could he lead the line?" I think if he was paired up with Saha, Yak, or Jo, he'd do well. He wouldn't be overawed by the occasion that's for sure.

Now think about this for a minute. Everton can always use all the exposure it can get. I will tell you that if Donovan signs with us, even on loan for three months, his three months with us will do more for our name recognition in the USA than McBride ever did. There will be A LOT of interested parties looking out for Everton on the TV and Everton results on the internet.

This could be really good on several different fronts if it happens.

Wow! TX Bill such passion. But your dead on. Not big fan but he could shake up this team a bit if for nothing else but give some of my neighbours a introduction to the blue side of Merseyside. We are unknown entity in much of the region I live in. To bad because the girls team I coach understands who I regularly support and how I've stayed in a pissy mood for much of the autumn.

actually, coming into the Confed Cups, it's pretty much been: "Donovan can only play well against CONCACAF teams, specifically Mexico"

That's the common thinking but he was awesome in the 2002 WC.

We should be going after US players instead of bringing in money whores like Neill. The transfer fees are usually low and we work for peanuts. If Donovan was Portugese he'd be worth almost at the very least 1/2 as much as that clown that Rafael just signed for 20M.

Dempsey was a established international and went for 1.25M and 12K/week (Plus I think he also had to work evenings in the club shop). I haven't met anyone in the states who doesn't like Everton. Even most of the [Poor language removed] fans here respect Moyes and the fact the players always work hard but they support other teams but if we got a couple more Yanks that will change.

So it's on the OS, but were only looking to sign him for 12 weeks. Is it worth it?

Will there be a place for him?

Do we need him?

If its on the OS, that means he aint coming, kiss of death that place.

Yes its worth it, hes a decent player, would give us a better option, no offence to both these players, than say Gosling or Osman.

I cant see him walking into the team, fully fit squad he would have to fight for a place, but would be good to have on the bench as an impact player.

We always need talented players and whilst he aint the best, he can certainly play a bit.

So it's on the OS, but were only looking to sign him for 12 weeks. Is it worth it?

As a potental quick fix there is no one out there who could do better that we could afford. At the very least we'll finally have someone who could provide a decent ball from corner kicks.

Will there be a place for him?

Yes, alongside Peanut

Do we need him?

Yes, we need more than Peanut to provide creativity in the midfield. Plus what happens if Peanut gets injured for an extended period of time given that Pinnear has a track record of injuries?

He's the kind of player who've we had success in the past picking up. Guys who for one reason or another have talent but weren't able to produce for their former clubs (Arteta, Peanut, Saha, Jo..well last years version of Jo).

Given that we might have to sell at the end of the season to fund debt, salary increases and doctor bills he would also be a decent replacement for someone who might leave (Peanut, Rodwell) in the transfer window next year.

I cant see him leaving the MLS, it would be very difficult after he slated Beckham so much. So I honestly think we could forget about a perm deal. That would be my only worry. Would hate him to settle in and then have to wave goodbye to him.

Donovan Talks Confirmed

Everton are hopeful of agreeing a deal to sign United States star Landon Donovan on loan.

Blues officials have been discussing the possibility of bringing the player to Merseyside on a short-term deal, beginning in January.
Everton chief executive Robert Elstone said: "Landon is a player David Moyes has identified as someone he would like to bring to the Club. We are working to make that happen and hope we can reach agreement soon with all the appropriate parties”.

If negotiations are successfully completed, the forward would join the Blues on January 2.

Still only 27, Donovan is his country's leading international goal-scorer and is also their most capped player with 120 appearances.
He can operate in a withdrawn striker's role, on the wing or as a more conventional attacking midfielder.

Along with David Beckham, he fired LA Galaxy to last month's final of the MLS Cup - the trophy contested by the top-placed league teams in the American competition.

Regarded as his nation's best ever player, Donovan won the MLS Most Valuable player and the Goal of the Year awards for the 2009 campaign, which concluded last month.

Donovan has previously played in Europe for Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen and would remain at Goodison Park until mid-March, joining fellow USA international Tim Howard.

Talk is confirm and if things going right he would be joining us on January 2nd and would stay with us until mid-March, he could play as attacking midfielder, winger & withdraw striker.

if things goes well, he would be a useful player for us when Yakubu goes away in Janaury!

I can't see moyes playing a 442 with all these strikers. Maybe he can loan out yakubu for a month so that he hopefully regains hs touch and lose the laziness(hypothetical point though)
