Everton and Martinez are to blame should Lukaku leave

It's easy to deliver, when you set your forward up as the fulcrum of the team. He's a gifted striker, potentially world class, but the tactics Martinez has employed will always give a forward a platform to perform.

Sure he'll be a loss, it will be interesting to see if he is so easily accommodated at his next club. If he is genuinely world class it won't make a difference.

There's other options out there, seem to remember after Lineker left we won the league. And Latchford came and went without winning any silverware. It's not all doom and gloom, a decent manager will adapt to these situations.

Lukaku always saw us as a stepping stone, Stones maybe too. Rooney left us and he was one of us. I think this is more a situation of player power more than another stick to beat Martinez or the club with.
Well put its a business when teams would rather finish fourth than win a cup ,I know as a fan I would rather win a cup

Dave's latest rebuttal asked two questions which he believed I have failed to address. For ease I have quoted his questions and my previous responses

So, if im following correctly:

1-- Because other teams have improved in league placing we should have done too?

2-- Because the media say we should be aiming for top 4 we should be top 4 and now pushing higher?

i'm sure ive misunderstood.

Without wanting to sound like I'm brown nosing a Mod, this is possibly the best post I've read on GOT

So rather than listen to countless football insiders in the media you listen to Dave?

I'm not sure what your point is, but one of the criteria for judging whether Martinez is suitable or not for Everton is to judge his performance against his peers (a far more relevant judgement than judging him against former Everton managers in former times under different circumstances). In this respect it is clear that Martinez has underperformed when you look at the performances of Ranieri, Pochettino and Bilic for example. In industry, CEOs are judged against their peers, so I do not find it irregular to consider judging Martinez in a similar manner.

The fact that the media consider us to be worthy of competing for a top 4 place just adds to what the football industry already thinks - we have a squad which should be competing for a top four place. Development of that squad as a result of increased purchasing power (Moshiri and broadcasting revenues) then increases the expectation not just to compete for top 4 but to go higher than that. An objective surely every Evertonian should wish for?

1 - Of course you have to keep up with your competition. It's no good Man Utd turning round and saying "Oh, just because Leicester and Spurs improved, we have to?"

2 - Forget the media. Three years ago Martinez said his aim was the top 4, we have regressed in working towards this goal.

1. We got 72 points then improved the squad. The improvement got 47 points and maybe not much more this season. Why is it unfair to expect it to be better or was 72 points a fluke.

2. See 1.

@The Esk
I also think its naive, ridiculous and even laughable to say we should be competing in the top 4...

1-- Keeper issue
2-- New centre back partnership
3-- Full backs who are weak defensively
4-- Central midifield issues
5-- No left midfield players

1 - Martinez should have dropped Howard a long time ago (the fans have been screaming for it)

2 - I don't see how Stones/Jagielka can't play together in a top 4 team, we're talking international quality centre halves here

3 - Are they? Coleman and Baines are known for their attacking play but that doesn't make them weak defensively, I think this is another case of Martinez's open style of football resulting in players being blamed for not being solid enough

4 - Besic, Barry, McCarthy, Barkley, Cleverley... What is the issue?

5 - Granted we don't have a left midfield player, and in fairness Martinnez has tried to address this, but that fact alone is not enough to turn around and say "see, we do belong in mid-table".
