Roberto Martinez discussion

I disagree but that's for another thread.

They got Brenda who blew 100's of millions and probably put them back 10 years.

If Martinez leaves he'll leave an outstanding group of players built in a fraction of the amount the other crowd had.

The major disappointment with our performances this season is the fact that the team is potentially so good, they should be doing a lot better.

In comparison to Moyes our points return is better than usual for a Moyes team at this stage, with a semi final thrown in.
Yeah brenda was a joke.
The difference with moyes was he inherited an awful unbalanced squad with a relegation mindset while martinez inherited a great squad with a top 6/7 mindset and is taking us backwards

If this takeover completes and they invest into the team do you think that they will be looking at a new manager then?

depends who they are and if they know anything about football. Do people become successful businessmen by walking in and ripping everything up in place when they're in an unfamiliar environment?

In the league. 48 goals last year, 61 in his first, and we're on course for 70 this year. So average of 60 goals a seaosn.

In Moyes last 3 seasons, we scored 51, 50 and 55. So average of 52 goals.

The three before that we got 60, 55 and 55. So average of 57 goals.

The three before 52, 35 and 45. So average of 44 goals.

So yeah slightly better under Martinez.

please don't quote the conceding stats, i don't want to cry today ha

So is it wildly different on average over the last 3 seasons compared to DM last 3 seasons - I'm just trying to adopt some form of quantitative measure of the claim ' best attacking football for years'. Qualitative assessment is of course wholly subjective.

Which would you rather watch....Moyes last 3 seasons or Martinez' first 2.5 seasons? I personally prefer the way we try to play under Martinez, but am rightly frustrated by the goals we concede. However, it's a million times more interesting to watch than being set up for a 0-0 and coming away with a 0-1.

It's weird, Martinez is instilling a 'top 4' mentality in the players while actually taking the squad backward. Moyes and his '40 points' aim is going but we're doing worse than we were before Moyes left.

The defensive coach thing won't work on a couple of levels.
1) Martinez is in charge...in TOTAL charge, even more so given the sad reasons for the seeming power vacuum in the club at the top.
2) This coach would want to change things, which won't happen...see 1 above.

also, whatever the question is, the answer is NOT Moyes.

I can see direct comparisons to 60 yrs ago, we had the P.E. teacher... Buchan / Moyes
We have the football purist...Carey / Martinez
we need the Catterick / fill in here

we're that close to being a very good team, but Martinez is not the man to take us on to be that team.

My worrying thing about Martinez is, and i say this from the pit of my Main Stand seat, in where i was sat today, is that, even the older generation of blues, are screaming out the glaringly obvious things which he isn't picking up on. Today, for example, every time we had possession for the first 60-65 mins, Stoke had men clambering to get at us, throwing bodies in the way, and being committed, we, on the other hand, gave them so much freedom. Surely, this can't be a tactic?
Another issue, is the insistence in the whole 'Pass Pass Pass... hopefully the ball will end up in the net' tactic. It's crippling us. Kone (who admittedly didn't play well), had about 4 chances to shoot today, and went to pass, he's a centre forward for christ sake, why shouldn't he shoot? The fans being on his back for the majority, really doesn't help him, the fans are screaming to shoot, then when he tries, and his confidence is knocked, they moan louder.

I said to someone earlier that we sat and criticised Moyes for being One Dimensional, stubborn and backwards. Here we are, nearly going into 4 years without Moyes, and we find ourselves playing a more attacking, and exciting, yet utterly suicidal game of one dimensional football. My example was, what would you prefer? A run of mediocre 1-0 wins, but regardless of how dirty, it's a win, or a game like today? Pure attacking football, and conceded 7 goals in 2 home games and get 0 points?

My two examples of this are today, a 4-3 loss at home to stoke, where our stubborn manager (seen this before), refuses to drop the goalie, goalies fault for 3rd goal, brings momentum and we lose, despite exhilarating football OR a total defensive performance, of the ilk of our 1-0 away win at Spurs in November 2008, one attack, one goal, 36 shots at, but a clean sheet, and 3 points.

I don't want to turn on Martinez, but when is enough, enough? Love the entertainment, but in a season where Leicester are top, Palace are 5th and Watford 7th, is it really acceptable for us to be 11th? The excuses are running out, would a possible cup success, cloud over two sub-par league season? Not for me it won't.

Howard will leave sometime in January.

Ive told people this.

This isnt me pretending to be ITK, just a feeling I have.

if he was off, he'd have been dropped by now surely? it would make no sense to play some has been whilst holding back a younger, better alternative. I hope to god he does go, but why would he? He's arrogant, but even he must know he won't be playing for a team anywhere close to our ability if he were to move.

Wigan fan on another forum last season...the contrasts to what we are all seeing this last 18 months are there for all to see.

"Afternoon everyone. I came on here in the summer to express some honest views regarding Martinez but was shot down in flames. 2 games in, some tricky matches and potential banana skins cropping up. Just wondering how you guys rate him so far. He is the master of spin and talks a great game but his management style is shocking. I have seen two games from Everton now and the style of play is frighteningly familiar. tippy tappy football up to the box then nobody shoots. Look how many goals we scored and conceded under Martinez. Its an abysmal record. It's a bottom half finish for Everton i'm afraid. And if you stick by him, Next season will be a relegation battle. I mean after all. He has signed players from a team that was constantly fighting relegation. They can't be that good can they?".

"For 4 seasons we were saying the same things. It get's very repetitive and you will notice that something isn't right. We had all those stats every match but still conceded 70 odd goals for about 3 seasons and ultimately went down. It may be pleasing on the eye but his tactics do not work. They might do 1 in every 10 matches and its like watching Barcelona when it comes off but when it doesn't work it's like watching Burscough".

to be fair, we're not boring and tippy tappy this season. There are definitely similarities with wigan it must be said, we just have better players.

I assume you ask the same question of every person that posts on this site????

Edit: I got wolves to a champions league final in cm11 with an ultra defensive system so I guess it's unfair comparing me to other posters.

your CM achievements pail in significance to what i've achieved on FM mate!

but seriously, i wouldn't go around claiming to be "able to do a better job" than someone who's won the FA Cup with minnows.

I know mate but watching the Spuds, they don't have better players than us IMO; however they have a solidity to their play with the attacking threat - question is why can't we have the same?
