I think if Martinez knew how good Geri was going to be on his return, I think Lennon would still be training with the kids at Spurs. Wasn't sure about the signing at the time less sure about it now. Seems like Bobby panicked towards the end and Levy got what he always wanted, someone to pay £4.5m and if memory serves me right his contract was up this summer.
Looks like they got us back for Piennaar

Despite the fact 3 months ago he had effectively agreed to sign for us until Surkis put the brakes on the deal, how exactly has anything whatsoever happened to change his mind mate?
bigger clubs to move to mate.

If Konoplyanka has taught the top clubs one thing, is don't let these sorts of players pass you buy. A lot of clubs, especially real madrid are seriously looking at kono to sign, granted they wont as he has just moved but still, he was available and everyone passed him up for their reasons.

Yarmalenko is just as good as him and if he was available to us, he is available to others as well. I hope we do sign him, but for the price tag, i am sure there would be plenty of other suitors for him.

Pretty much agree, think Lennon was bought basically to be the starter on that side with Deulofeu designed to develop over the course of the season and rotate when on form with Lennon, no one and i mean absolutely no one could have predicted just how fast Deulofeu would become so integral to the starting 11, feel a bit sorry for Lennon though as he's basically in the same situation he left Spurs to get away from now

To be honest i'd say del was our prime target along with cleverley this summer. Glad that Martinez has backed him to that extent as well, rather than easing him in again.

Lennon was always going to be what he is now, a squad player. He is fast and direct, i'm happy to have that with experience to boot for only 4 million, it is players like lennon that can stretch a defence in the last 15-20 minutes.

Mate, his asking price will have gone up purely to not being in the last year of his contract anymore, so can hardly see exactly why teams not interested in him when he was entering the last 12 months and maybe available for 13-15m would suddenly be clamouring over him for 17-20m.

As for Konoplynka alerting everyone to how good Ukranian players could be etc, pretty sure Shevchenko did the same thing a long time ago, and clubs that tried to jump that bandwagon got badly burned with the likes of Rebrov amongst others flopping

Also Yarmolenko hasn't exactly set the CL on fire this year which is the one thing that may have moved him out of our realistic targets and onto the radar of much bigger teams.

If you think Kono has made all top clubs rethink the way they buy players your dreaming though mate, absolutely nothing will change and players from Eastern Europe will still be treated with a huge amount of doubt by any top team

Are they?

oh me too mate ;)

Either way easy in hindsight but Lennon looks like a bit of a mistake in the end

Let's hope that a. we didn't go overboard in the fee we paid and b. he can stay positive and focussed for if GD gets injured or loses form/effectiveness.
Lennon has pace and a good work ethic, that could be needed in the coming weeks.

It was me who mentioned about the international caps + also the media link was for £3-4mil i think either online or someone posted in here...

The link to Boyko comes via him having the same agent as Yarmolenko and he mentioned that several clubs from England had made contact abut his availability, from what I've seen of him, top notch shot stopper, and someone who is vocal with his defence - shouts his arse off at them after a chance etc, someone mentioned he doesn't start for Ukraine and that's right but also absolutely baffling as he is miles better than the two keepers ahead of him.

Strange one like - bit mixed on it, seen him enough to rate him quite highly, young enough to be a long term answer - 26-27 i think he is, but he's Ukranian and never played in another league so no idea how he'd adjust and if he'd be a success and would likely cost decent money as well, suppose the best thing i can say about him is that in the tougher European games and games vs Kiev, Shaktar etc he normally plays exceptionally well. If we are in for him then if he adjusts he would be a solid improvement over Howard - just don't see it though myself as bringing in a keeper with no experience of the league who may not speak English seems unlikely - especially mid season

IF we are targeting any incomings then the Ukraine/Russian leagues are probably the ones that have more availability and are likelier to sell mid season as they have the winter break coming up from the next weekend till mid march so have time to get the replacements in etc

As for Yarmolenko - a lot i reckon will depend on who Kiev draw on Monday for the knock-out rounds - like with the transfer during the summer IF Surkis thinks they can progress from the game by keeping Yarmolenko then they won't sell, if say the draw Bayern, Barca, Madrid though can see him being sold

In this day and age mate, 4.5m is pretty much a nothing fee anyway (sounds weird saying that), what we have to hope for is that the Lennon we got on loan is the Lennon that shows up when if he gets any extended run

Not all players, but these highly thought of eastern europeans. No-one went for kono and next thing he is in the top group of players in la liga so far because Seville jumped through the hoops. I imagine in the summer the fact it was the last 12 months of his contract, it gave us more leverage to negotiation, which we don't have anymore. considering this is the club who have rep for poor negotiations, i highly doubt the name your price scenario we have now will go in our favour.
