surely we would not sell any defenders - with a few injuries like we have now we look threadbare at the back. What would we do if one of the back four got injured in the Derby?we would be sweating.... so that leaves us with a midfield that is choc-full of aging and injury prone players. Whoever the back up for Barry is we need to get/keep them, who is our McCarthy cover? what do we do when Ross gets his hammy? Having super-kev back will help but if we bring in another winger we have to make room. McGeady is not going to get a sniff unless KEv,Gerri and Lennon get injured so thats excess wages. Osman may have another round left, but Hibbo needs to start running Russia full time now. Gibson will stay as we need a return on all those sick days and for standing by him in court.

I'd be getting rid of McGeady, Gibson and Pienaar for sure. Not sure if we'd even find a buyer for Pienaar. I'd also be looking to offload Hibbert as he's really taking the pish in the last few years with his wage-stealing.

Also Besic could imo soon imo.

We could bring in one first XI players if we offloaded the above, and be much stronger as a result.

From the point of view of having a happy squad then suppose its time to think who deserves a chance to get game time elsewhere. I would love to keep Oviedo but I think he deserves to be playing regularly. Although I think people are a bit over the top with how bad McGeady has been he clearly needs to start up elsewhere now. Pienaar is probaly exactly the kind of player someone else is looking for too. Hibbert won't get serious action but where is he going to go, and sort of like the idea he is around somewhere. Gibson will give us options as will Besic.
We need a keeper but would that mean we offload Howard or leave him around to be 'a decent chap'. Don't really care.

Sell garbutt, get lukaku's brother in. Start baines on his gaz baz apprenticeship cuase martinez cuase I think baines would win the league in that position tbh

We need to get in some cash to sign Butland and Yarmolenko. Whether thats from transfer fees or via the wages pot i dont know...the players who we can offload with these two coming in would be;

Howard
Oviedo
Gibson
Pienaar
McGeady

Then of course Hibbert and Osman off the books in the summer.

If we could get some cash for Naismith and Kone this Jan id take it also...

These 2 players in and then a striker to compete with Lukaku in the summer and were laughing.

Yeah but we hardly ever do business in January let alone all that mate!

i wouldnt sell any of them other than Mcgeady. i would also consider Mirallas if the price is right. dont get rid of Howard yet but next year Definatly. Butland is a great keeper but hes young and English so would probably cost a fortune.

Doubt you'd get enough to buy 1 player let alone 2 from that list.

Naismith is the only one mentioned worth money, and that's because he's a quality player, and as such we should keep him.

My original submission was this

The following are just food for thought but each is a matter for consideration. I've listed my thoughts what about you, other players could well be considered and will other clubs come in for them

In my book we are carrying some players, those getting good money and not playing because they are not good enough.

Top of the list has to be McGeady, he must be up there with one of the poorest players we have ever signed, he is just not good enough, a headless chicken whose only talent is passing the ball to the opposition.

Mo Besic, the lad has promise but time is running out as he has never matched what many thought him capable of when he first. Should we cash in on him now?

Darren Gibson, still got a chance of making it with us but he has yet to prove anything worth while. Injury prone, not unusual for our squad, is he worth keeping

Good players we could consider include

Controversial possibly but Leighton Baines, he has been missing a while and youth has taken over. The kids have played superbly and will now be wanting to play week in week out. Baines has been a great servant but football is now an industry so sentimentality has no place in things like this.

John Stones, others will again come calling, are we better placed to sell him or should we retain. If we sell the price must be substantially higher than the money Chelsea offered

Posting now

Nothing in that submission is cast in stone, deliberate ambiguous statements intended to stimulate conversation in the post derby cum international break but you wouldn't believe it by some responses.

I agree totally that Ossie, Pienaar, Hibbo and the pathetic McGeady have had their day. Baines, if you consider the valid statement I have made could well be seen as a hinderance to the kids coming through, other clubs will read it that way as well. John Stones will produce offers, there is no doubt in my mind and, while we prevaricate here he will be getting tapped up by other players on international duty whether we like it or not.
Tim Howard is coming to the end of his career but until we sign someone better he has to stay

Agreed.

I'd ship on Robles. If we are to replace Howard next summer, we must look to bring in a better backup than this shocking keeper. He simply cannot be allowed to take over as Everton's number 1 if we are to challenge for any kind of honours.

why on earth would you keep a 38 year old on the books instead of a keeper in his young 20's? we'd end up having to replace howard in a year's time anyway. Robles may still actually be a decent keeper one day - howard is long past it and on a much larger wage.
