We definitely should sell McGeady, Gibson and Pienaar in January. Pretty sure some lower-rated BPL or even Championship teams would like to have them in their squads now. They really aren't playing any role in current squad and I can't see why should we not do that, it might be the last chance to do so. We can get about 6-7 mil for them in total, which is still better than having nothing, as it is now.

Why Besic mate? He's the natural understudy to Barry, who isn't likely to remain here forever himself.

I don't think we should "get shut" of Besic, as he's not terrible, but I just get the feeling he'll be making the move to Turkey or somewhere for next season.

Ah, so you reckon it would be his preference (as opposed to the club's decision to offload)?

The kneejerk on Barry is ridiculous.

Last season, everyone was shocking, yet he's the scapegoat. This season, i'd argue he's been one of our best. Consistently performing, if he makes a foul, and gets a yellow, everyone goes mental, yet McCarthy has struggled all season, and has had no stick.

It's laughable.

As for this thread, it's a weird one. Ideally. We should be looking to let no one go, as a bigger squad, means more depth, less pressure, and means players have competition, so have to try harder.

If we were to let any go, i'd say McGeady, and controversially Oviedo. McGeady, was a low risk, high reward situation, unfortunately, it never worked out, and it's £1.5m we won't get back. Oviedo is just too injury prone, he's great with the fans, and that spell he had when he broke into the first team two seasons ago, was brilliant, and him breaking his leg, was the beginning of our morale dipping i feel. That said, if i hear the 'Oh come on, he's broke his leg, give the lad a chance' line one more time, i'll just laugh, it happened two years ago, and he should be spot on now. He's regressed, but he's not good enough anymore.

Cant believe someone said Barry, one of our most consistent players this season

Oviedo still has a lot to offer and so does Gibson when he can get fit, I would prefer no one we shouldn't sell in January as Martinez doesn't like to recruit.

It also depends on the Yarmalenko trilogy, is he or isn't he time again in January, if he comes in Super Kev will go

Other than that the fat bloke we got from Russia

He's really not though imo.

The lad needs to learn a bit of positional sense so he doesn't have to do barmy "kid on the playground" sprinting everywhere.

There is a reason why Barry looks boss whilst being so immobile - his ability to read the game is second-to-none.

Hence why I said understudy i.e. anyone who trains to take the place of another in case of need.

You're preaching to the choir if you think I have anything against Barry. He gets slated by a lot of our fans despite the fact, as you correctly identify, he snuffs many attacks out almost at source (which is roundly lost on those who have never played against a player with similar nous themselves).

That said though, who else have we got in the squad who better fits the bill to fill his shoes; who also has the proven ability to keep the likes of Messi in his pocket on the big stage when he plays to his potential? He's still more than young enough to develop into Barry's successor, even if he isn't there right now. I'd bet a lot of money that that was Martinez' rationale in getting him in in the first place, and still is his rationale now.

If not then fair enough, but there are plenty of other more pressing priorities in the squad that need sorting before we add yet another central midfielder.

We need to get rid of Mcgeady and maybe Pienaar. If we can get a veteran striker and one more super winger (so we don't have to play freakin Kone and Naismith out wide every game), it will do us a world of good. We are DEEP everywhere else on the pitch.

Ospina might be game for a jump and his value will be lower thanks to his CL cameo ... so if MLS wanted Howard and I could get Ospina I'd do that. I'd also sell Geads if we could.

I would absolutely not sell any first choice players like Baines or Stones. Massive over-thinking there. No way on Besic either ... he's still relatively young for a defensive player (although I realize I say that as Galloway, Browning and Stones could easily all start a game together soon).
