Just can't see it. For one, I just don't think Stubbs was that important in any decision making process in that. And I don't think he's smart enough to be that calculated either.

Stubbs persuaded Rooney to ditch his long time agent in favour of Paul Stretford - Stubbs own agent. Stretford was hugely influential in driving Rooney to join Utd. Stretford is pretty infamous - Moyes banned him from the training ground after Rooney's departure. Stretford was also behind Stubbs departure 12 months later. Google Collymore. & Stretford - Stan isn't a fan of his former agent and called him a puppet master. Read the bit about Rooney at Everton in 2002:

No mate, you're wrong. You're also right though. It's just business and 'dollar' for these people. It's the norm, as opposed to the shady underbelly you portray.

Sad state of affairs, but I don't think Alan Stubbs is a 'player' in these big money games somehow

What are you claiming mate? Stubbs is a big player? LOL. Rooney was forced into leaving Everton? He was tempted by Man Utd and Dollar - nobody forced him to leave, least of all Alan -friggin'- Stubbs.

I personally think Stubbs was used by the Stretford spin machine with regards the Rooney transfer
I can remember Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports prior to Rooney leaving.
John Gregory and Peter Schmiecel happened to be on the panel and were both asked if ...
"Rooney should leave to better his career" they both , emphatically , replied "yes"
Turns out (with the benefit of hindsight) that both had a major stake in Stretfords Agency

Didn't Rooney say something like 'I don't care because I know the truth' when he left. I don't think he got on with Moyes - as his autobiography proves. If Stubbs and Moyes had a problem with each other, why did Moyes re-sign him after letting him go a few months earlier? And give him a job on the staff? Everton needed the money desperately to make new signings. Without that big sale we'd probably have got relegated. Instead we finished 4th, after 17th with Rooney the season before. It was obvious we'd cash in whatever was spun, we'd been doing it for years. Michael Ball, Franny Jeffers etc.

Moyes banned stretford yet a couple of weeks ago they were palling about like best friends, yet perfectly reasonable blues hold a grudge against Alan Stubbs 12 years later because they think he forced the rooney move through. Come on lads, that's ridiculous.

Not arsed. Why would any self-respecting blue use Moyes' behaviour as an acceptable yardstick?

I wasn't using it as an acceptable yard stick, more to point out that football is a business, and a fickle one at that. Stretford is the snake here, maybe he did use Stubbs, maybe he didn't, all conjecture and, for me, not enough to hate Alan Stubbs. But I'll leave it I suppose, each to their own.

Did I say he 'forced him to leave'? No, of course I didn't.

Stubbs took a naive young kid under his wing and greatly influenced him. He introduced him to a leech and the rest was history.

Stubbs has always looked out for himself and doesn't give a toss about Everton. If he did, he'd have took the one year deal offered to him in summer 2005 and been filled with pride that he was captaining his boyhood club in the Champions League. Instead he took a 2 year deal at minty Sunderland for more money... AND slagged off Everton on the way out, telling lies that he admitted just 4 months later that he was wrong to say.

Anyone who represents Everton in the media and advocates OUR PLAYERS going to another club to better themselves is not fit to wear the blue shirt. He certainly isn't worthy of being called an Everton legend. He wasn't even that good of a player - just a big yard dog stopper.

He's not exactly set the world on fire as a the reserve team manager - Sheedy & Big Dunc have done more as coaches to build a good rep than Stubbs has.

It's not just Rooney though. It's the health clause lies, and it's the 'Baines needs to leave to better himself' comments.

There are 3 reasons not to be a fan of Stubbs, not just 1.

No mate, I was referring to the Rooney episode. You make it sound like Stubbs groomed him. Stubbs never spoke to the media about advising Rooney to leave. He certainly never did this - "represents Everton in the media and advocates OUR PLAYERS going to another club."

Maybe, just maybe, Wayne made the right choice? As much as we hate to admit it....
