Thanks for all the honest answers to the question. I am now no longer confused - just terrified.
Hahaha - best of luck whatever like. Our under 21's finished mid table, but in his defence, we're weak because of the size of our squad, and tend to play some under 18's and loan out good over 18's for experience (or to protect them from being head-hunted by Stubbs), etc., so not an ideal situation for him.
Pretty sure there's more to the Baines thing than the selected passage above mate, but for me it's the fact that he used inside information to raise his personal profile to serve his own ends (again?) as he was launching his book that annoyed me most about the incident. Bad egg, do us a favour and help us get rid please.

Some quite frankly ridiculous reaction in here, based on nothing more than hear'say and quite possibly misinterpreted quotes.

He was good as a player for us and is a die hard Blue - even if the stupid comments he's made are true, there's no need for this type of response IMO.

TBF when did that ever stop us.

*Cough Philip Green.

Im in the Stubbs bad Ted camp if im honest.

I think he'll be a dreadful coach like, but just don't understand the hate for a blue who did a good job on the pitch for us and has been part of a successful backroom staff.

He's probably not the most intelligent bloke from the looks of things and therefore his mouth can get him in trouble, but when there's right snides at the club like Suntan and the marketing team behind disaster like Kitbag, Kings Dock, Fortress Sports Fund and the ilk, then the hatred of Stubbs seems way, way over the top to me.

I'll be honest Tubey, my main gripe is the way he treats Everton as if we are a stepping stone to other clubs that Stubbs clearly sees as better than us. He did it with Rooney and he did it with Baines. You wouldn't get the likes of Southall or Reid saying the stuff Stubbs has said. You wouldn't even get a Tim Cahill saying the stuff Stubbs has said. For me, I want an Everton player/employee (and ESPECIALLY the club captain!) to talk the club up at every opportunity - not meekly suggest that nobody can turn down Man Utd or one of the so-called bigger (nearly always just 'richer') clubs.

There's other stuff as well - the manner of his departure in 2005 and the things he said were pretty disgraceful at the time too, especially when he later apologised for them (he had to, he was coming back to play for the club).

We could have done with him in defence vs Villareal in our biggest game in over decade, but he decided getting paid more money to play for Sunderland (!) was more important to him.

I think everything in its context mate, the Rooney thing runs deep with me for a few reasons and his part never sat well with me.

Thing with that situation was that Wayne was already committed to the move and Stubbs was just backing a friend.

I think this is what he said:

"Wayne is a special player and will fit in well if he goes to United," said the former Celtic star.

"If it does happen I wish him well. He is a good pal. If it does work out for him I will be delighted.

"It would be a massive move for Wayne and would generate a lot of money for Everton."

I don't think there's much wrong with that. Yes, I'd like to see him say the opposite and back him staying at Everton, but the above is the more realistic answer if he's given the question.

Either way, I'm not sure that's enough reason to give him it in the neck as much as he's getting in this thread.

Anyhoos, the real losers here will be Hibs. I'd be devastated if he became Everton manager as he's clearly not up to the job, and that'd be a tough job in Scotland at a time they need a steady ship.

Do you remember the Rooney agent saga - legal case etc, eventually ending up with you know who - who was also Stubbs agent, the suddeness of the transfer request, timing, where we finished the year before, the strong likelyhood of us getting relegated the season after he bolted. Stubbs for me was part of those dark forces.

Rooney and Stretford shafted Everton and Stubbs played a part without a shadow of a doubt in my mind. My problem was never Rooney leaving as it was when rather then if, given where we where back then, my problem will always be how? A week to go to the deadline, transfer request and left Everton to the dogs as relegation fodder - for all they cared.

Like i say dark forces at play to which i believe he was part.

Isn't Stubbs Rooney's mate? People are acting like he told Rooney to leave us for United when he was a coach. He never, he was just a friend and team-mate then.

What is it people are trying to say? Stubbs told him to leave, and Fergie offered him £25 quid a week, and eternal credit in the brothels of Manchester? Wayne couldn't wait to sign on the dotted line, because Stubbs told him to?
